Guys, I don't like bacon anymore!

That's crazy talk!!!!

chocolate tasted like licking an ashtray for about 6 months post op. My taste buds changed rapidly immediately after surgery so do not stock up on anything. You never know what you may grow a sudden distaste for tomorrow.

This is blasphemy!!! Of everything I love, the two things I'd be most upset about not liking post-op are:

1. seafood (most all)

2. bacon

That is truly tragic!! I don't eat bacon often but I think I would be heartbroken if I couldn't eat it! ????

True story but I never enjoyed bacon. Very few times did I experience bacon that I just WANTED; usually had to be candied bacon or nice and flavored. I'm still pre-op. It's just one of those meats that are blah to me. Now, put a nice rare ribeye in front of me? We're going to fight if you try and take a bite. I hope that's something I can still have post-op (obviously 3+ months down the line).

We can never be friends.

Lol

Just kidding... sort of.

I love bacon.

But yes I have to say some foods that I loved pre surgery I don't enjoy now. Right after surgery I couldn't stand coffee. Like I'd have a few sips and I couldn't do it. It grossed me out.

Some other things too. You do get some of your taste buds back tho.

:)

it took me a while to enjoy bacon again, I think the texture was a problem early on. I like it now, but can only handle maybe 1 1/2 glorious slices.

For me, its spaghetti sauce. I used to adore it as "the ambrosia for the Gods".

Now, just smelling it makes me nauseous. I think, maybe because it's too rich for me post op. I like just fresh tomatoes--heated and seasoned with fresh herbs served over miracle noodles.< /p>

Just think--I used to eat cold spaghetti for Breakfast and take spaghetti sandwiches for lunch to school. Oh, the times---they are a chang'n!

:)

Spaghetti sandwich? There is someone else who used to do that besides me? Spaghetti, home made spicy sausage and mushroom sauce that had reduced all day on a simmer, miracle whip and a slice of havarti on soft white bread. It's no wonder that I gained weight...

Nothing has tasted bad to me, but chocolate smelled bad for awhile.

Never been a fan of bacon or pork in general really unless it was smothered in Syrup or BBQ (I know I know) but I won't miss it if I never have it again. Now if I didn't still love seafood, THAT would be a huge disappointment! I'm only 3 days post op so I'm hoping that I will still be able to enjoy seafood. Something that I've actually been thinking about that I NEVER crave is chicken.... I've never been big on chicken (or pork of course) especially unbreaded chicken but I'm looking forward to something OTHER than Jello, Soup and Protein shakes and unbreaded chicken comes to mind quite often now. Not sure why that is. Very odd for sure.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
