Marvelous, glorious Water!

Recommended Posts

Yeah you can... i was drinking Water normally at around week 3ish.... but its even easier now... it feels normal now... but if i down a whole bottle quickly... i get gurgling sounds so i avoid it if i can... so i just gulp and rest and repeat

The waiting 30 mins is annoying though.... but i kind of have a schedule in my head for eating and drinking... that makes it easier.

Eg when i finish eating i look at the time.... If i finish Breakfast at say 8am i will make a mental note to drink some Water after 8.30am.. and then i plan when ill eat next.

Eg. I plan to eat lunch at 11.30... i make a mental note that from 8.30am to 11.00 i can drink as much as i like.

I made a topic including this question, but I made the mistake of also including a question about medications so most of the answers focus on that and I didn't get far too many insightful responses on fluids, but how much do you find you're able to drink throughout the day?

I've seen some people (in a thread made in 2011) say they can easily get 80-100oz through the day after about a month post op.

My situation is I'm a kidney transplant and we're really encouraged to drink like a fish. My doctor recommends 136oz a day. Now to be fair, I don't get that even now because I just don't think about it, but I feel like coupled with the risk of malnutrition and what not, I should really focus on getting it all in properly post-op.

I'm shooting for 100oz, which is a happy medium between bariatric suggestions (64oz) and my nephro's suggestions.

How many of you find that to be a realistic goal? I know I'll have to sip throughout the day, but is 100oz something you could get if you consciously drink some Water every 15 minutes or so or whatever they recommend?

Thanks so much!

Some days I can barely get in 64+ ounces now, let alone after surgery with a smaller pouch... But I'll try!

Hope you can do it too!

By the way, after surgery it's 100 oz of liquid, which includes other drinks and fluids. :) (explained by the NUT yesterday at the support group)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
