Hello Everyone,

I was wondering what are the pros and cons of the different port placements.. From looking @ at the before and after pics there are a few different places that our doctors are placing them. Could some of you guys share where you port is located and some of the pros and cons? Thanks for sharing

My band is just above my waist band. It was originally, the doctor thought below my waist band but because of my weight loss it stuck out too much and it happened to be right at the waist band which wasn't good. It hurt from the pants rubbing against it so he went in and gave me the smaller port and moved it upwards. All is doing fine but it still sticks out a bit but that can't be helped. I don't care to gain all that weight back to hide it, you know what I mean.

Mine is dead center, just below my breast bone. I have lost all my belly fat very quickly and when I lay down there is a slight hump. I tell you what, though...it doesn't bother me one whit. As long as it's not sticking out of the middle of my forehead I am a happy camper!

Mine is bellow my underpant line..

The doctor said that this way I can wear two piece bathing suits and you wont be able to see that it is there...

I think it's where ever you feel more comfortable with

Mine was placed on the right side due to scaring issues from a previous accident on the left. My port has migrated up about 2 inches and now sits just under the rib cage right below the nipple area. It makes it hard to sleep sometimes since I am a right side sleeper.

I didn't have a choice on where my port was going to go, my surgeon just put it where she thought was the best place. It's on my left side right at my natural waist line. I haven't been out much, so I've been lounging in comfy clothes and haven't had to wear regular clothes yet. Is the surgeon that you are going to have going to give you a choice of where you want it?

Mine was placed center of the breast bone more to the right. I have no complaints with it. Sometimes my front close bras rub against it and when I lay on my back it sticks up a bit. But overall I am very satisfied with it. My doctor asked me if I had any preferences and I told him no. He went on to explain various locations but said this would be easier access. Try to have this discussion with your Dr. so both of you can figure out whats best for you and the surgery.

Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
