sondra2368 26 Posted June 17, 2016 I am one month post op. I have been health conscious my adult life regarding this subject. Prior to surgery, I was able to smell what I ate the next day when I pooped. Now I poop every three or four days and without a lit candle it's horrible. I don't want to go at work because it's embarrassing. Can I do anything to help this situation? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
NeedaBreak4Me 1,755 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) Honey... it is completely normal... I always prided myself on having poop that doesn't ever smell bad.... Since surgery i am like ] On a serious note.... maybe try prebiotics? Edited June 17, 2016 by AussieGirl81
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted June 17, 2016 I agree with the Probiotics suggestion. In my case (I've been sleeved) this is one of those problems that resolved itself. However, I've read that this is an ongoing problem for people who've had other (not sleeve) types of WLS.
sondra2368 26 Posted June 17, 2016 I drink liquid yogurt and take two ascidopholis capsules daily. What else do you suggest? Maybe Currelle tablets? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
NeedaBreak4Me 1,755 Posted June 17, 2016 You need to give it time for it to work. All also, try a broad spectrum probiotic. Having acidophilus alone is not enough, you need the different strains to really see the benefit. Attached is the list of strains to look out for... this is the one i use, and i can definitely see the difference when i don't use it.
sondra2368 26 Posted June 17, 2016 Thanks for the list. Which one do you use and where do you purchase it online Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
NeedaBreak4Me 1,755 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) Well i am in Australia, so i am not sure if my one would be available where you are.. But here is the link to the brand i use http://www.healthy-lifespace.com/adult/broad-spectrum-probiotic-capsules/ It is expensive... but im sure you can find something similar.. hence why i posted the ingredients... and a plus with this brand the Capsules are small so no issues there Edited June 17, 2016 by AussieGirl81
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted June 17, 2016 @@sondra2368 -- here's what I take. http://www.walmart.com/ip/36771391?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227024565003&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40754323712&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=78606467432&veh=sem I can't guarantee it'll fix YOUR problems, but it sure seems to help me with my digestion -- both extracting nutrition from my foods (I feel great) and faster, easier elimination. Again, I think this is a problem that WILL resolve itself over time. You're only a month post-op and are losing weight faster right now than you probably ever will again in your whole life. There's a LOT of bad stuff coming out of your body right now.
smg 471 Posted June 17, 2016 Can't say I've had the same issues that you are having, but perhaps it's because I have been taking Probiotics from about 3 weeks pre-op....not sure. Not all probiotics are the same, though, some have label inaccuracies, and some have more/less and/or different strains in them. A good resource to compare and see how clean and accurate their ingredients/labels are is labdoor. Here's a link specifically to the probiotics section -- https://labdoor.com/rankings/probiotics best of luck!
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted June 17, 2016 I now carry this. You can find it cheaper, this was just the first one that popped up.https://www.amazon.com/Poo-Pourri-Original-Bathroom-Deoderizer-Spritzer/dp/B01BDUMXCI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466182377&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=poo+pourri&psc=
bdejong 30 Posted June 17, 2016 I found this to be a viable solution to the issue. Have a bottle hidden in my desk drawer. My wife brought it home from the hospital gift shop but it actually works very well. http://www.poopourri.com/
