Anyone in Northern KY?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I had surgery on 6/8 and am looking for a mentor/buddy. So far, so good and I am keeping positive about the small changes. Thanks!

Hi there. I'm more northern than that - I'm in Ohio.

I had surgery in January of 2015, but I'm certainly up for working with a buddy.

Your comment about 'keeping positive about the small changes' is certainly the right attitude to have. I wish I still had that attitude. I'm a year and half out. I had great success initially (lost 90 pounds), but I've stalled for the past 6 months, I'm getting in my own way and preventing myself from getting to my goal.

I'd love to have someone to buddy with that knows what it is like to have surgery and the experiences that go with it.

I'm game for keeping in touch if you are willing to work with someone further north than originally hoping for.

Schale

Of course! Would be good to keep in touch with someone who knows :) I am 15 days out and just started pureed food yesterday. What part of OH?

I'm in Dayton. How far north in KY are you? Close enough to Cincinnati? I used to work in northern Cincinnati.

Aaahh, 15 days out. I hope you are doing well. I remember way back then. It seems like a long time ago. Things went pretty well for me when I was at that stage.

The biggest mistake I made was trying to do too much exercising too soon. I had an umbilical hernia repaired during my RNY surgery. I re-ruptured my hernia while exercising. I think I was about 3 months out. It really hurt for about a week. It subsided after that. My surgeon said that it would be an 'in' with the insurance company to get approved for hernia repair surgery when the time comes for skin removal surgery. And (conveniently  ) while they are in there, they'll do the skin removal surgery at that time. My problem is that I haven't lost enough weight yet to quality for my skin removal surgery. But that's my current focus. I need to get this last bit of weight off (40-50 pounds). I'm not in a good mental place, but I'm trying to turn that page.

As for pureed foods, that sounded so gross to me in the beginning. For me, it didn't end up being too bad. In the past year and a half, I've embraced, and even love, my green smoothies. I consider that pureed food. I do green smoothies more as a means to 'drink' my veggies instead of eating them. The taste of any fruit that I add and Protein powder certainly overpowers the taste of the veggies.

What do you find challenging at this point? Has anything pleasantly surprised you yet?

I can drink faster than I think I should. I normally only drink Water though. Actually, I live halfway between Cincinnati and Lexington, however 2 days a week I work in Delhi, OH. So far I have only tried pureed chicken salad and fat free refried Beans. Both tasted bad. I probably need to make smoothies, but they want us to just puree meats for now. This weekend I am trying salmon and scallops. Hopefully those will be better! Really, the only challenge is finding foods I'll like, but in soft foods I'll be happy, so only 2 weeks. I can do that :)

My surgery was 1/18/16 with Dr. Moon at St. Elizabeth. Where did you have yours? And where are you at in your diet stages?

I was at the same facility, but with the new surgeon (Dr. Nirujogi). I started pureed this past Wednesday. Do you ever go to the support group meetings there?

The pureed and soft stages felt like they took forever. The first month or two after surgery were pretty rough and I found myself questioning my decision but I promise you it gets better and easier! My life is pretty normal now and has been for a couple months. I have never been to the support group

Yeah, it's not fun, but I know it will end, haha. I go monthly (even before surgery). The soft foods I'll be happy about since I can eat fish and everything. pureed just kind of grosses me out. I eat a lot of cottage cheese, haha.

I didn't puree it. I just chew it very good. I know, bad, but it really is almost liquid before I swallow. I am back today for the first time actually, so a day less than 3 weeks. It went by fast though! I just worked on school work all day and healing. I also walk everyday now. I know it's not much, but it's something! Any good ideas for pureed you have for me? Bc yogurt and cottage cheese will not cut it for 2 weeks, haha.

I did pureed meats and I liked that a lot. I did chicken with gravy and I did shaved lunch meat with mustard. People rave about eggface's ricotta recipe that works on pureed stage but I was not in the mood to cook during that time lol

Oh and mashed potatoes

And pureed Wendy's chili!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
