1Day1Life4Now 882 Posted June 17, 2016 I had the sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and returned to work a week after surgery. I am having a revision to Gastric Bypass in September or October and I was wondering how long I would be off from work. Was anybody able to go back to work after a week or did it take longer? I'm a bit OCD and like to plan things out in advance but I have no idea what to expect this time around.
Daisee68 2,493 Posted June 17, 2016 Well normally I would say 2 weeks to at least get used to the new lifestyle (and at least 2 weeks of liquid diet). However, since you have had sleeve before, you know the rules and may not need the extra time to get used to it. How did you do going about after sleeve? Had surgery on Tuesday taught 90 mins following Monday and four hours Wednesday. I was off from my full time teaching job. I was very tired. My students were understanding. If you have desk job I think week could be ok. Good luck! I revised from band to bypass. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
pattyoj 13 Posted June 22, 2016 I asked this questions before my surgery and didn't understand why people took so much time off.... Everyone is different. I had surgery thrusday and went back to work on Tuesday ... Yes I was tired but being at home bored wasn't going to help me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Amylou 206 Posted June 22, 2016 I took 2 weeks off and it was about perfect. I wouldn't have been able to go back after a week...I was ready after 2.
Anilyn 22 Posted June 23, 2016 Definitely depends on the job. I have a few different part-time jobs. One is from home, so I went back to that one after five days. The others i went back to after 10 days.
Moogle 116 Posted June 23, 2016 At my one week post-op appointment, my doctor told me we would talk about going back to work at my next appointment, three weeks later. That seems like a rather long time. Thankfully I am a student, and the surgery date fell very close to the beginning of my summer break. I couldn't imagine taking off four weeks of work for any reason at my last job.
Photo925 100 Posted June 24, 2016 I had a sleeve a few years back and took two weeks off. I just had my revision to a mini gastric bypass (I recognize that the recovery might be different for the mini option) on June 13th and was back to work the following Monday. I have a mostly desk job and noticed that I was a little tired, but felt fine other than that. I was actually surprised how much easier it was the second time around. Denise007 13 Posted June 28, 2016 I had a friend who had surgery on Wednesday and was at work on Monday. He works at a hospital (not a nurse) and does a lot of walking. He's totally fine. Some kind of freak of nature, lol.
elizabeth105 44 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) I had RNY surgery on a Wednesday, got out of the hospital on Sunday, and went back to work on Monday. I don't recommend it though.. I work from home, so I could lay in a recliner all day. But your body is still healing and you have no energy. I'd recommend 1-2 weeks depending on how you feel. CeeGee 30 Posted July 8, 2016 I have 3 weeks off. I have an office job but have to carry my laptop and other things around our campus to different meetings all day and it would be too much right away. I am thankful for the three weeks to make sure I have developed good eating and walking habits before jumping back into a job that is very busy and consuming!
