Freaking out because it's going TOO well?!

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 days post op.... And this has been a breeze! The worst part was a sore throat from the breathing tube! No nausea, almost no pain, no gas, no problem drinking my liquids! I can drink regular mouthfuls without discomfort. I didn't have an appetite for the first 2-3 days but it returned right before starting full liquids. Now I'm pretty hungry and these liquids aren't cutting it! Lol. No restriction yet... But My doctor told me to I may not experience that until actual food. I never had to take my pain meds. My incisions are tiny and almost healed. I FEEL 100% NORMAL.... And it's freaking me out! I'm driving myself crazy thinking that this isn't going to work and I just wasted $11,000 since I'm having NONE of the symptoms I expected. I've nearly accused my surgeon of malpractice! He is a very reputable and legitimate Doctor so I've managed to keep my emotions in check...kind of. I'm hoping someone else has had a similar experience and can reinforce that just because I'm not having the "usual" experience, doesn't mean it won't work. I'm driving myself and everyone around me crazy!

@@fits_like_a_sleeve Relax and enjoy the fact you have had no "effects" from surgery! :-) You will not feel restriction with fluids only. If you are "hungry" - make sure you are taking a PPI as sometimes stomach acid can mimic hunger pains. Stay hydrated and be sure to get in your Protein (if that's in your plan). You are one of the lucky ones it seems!!! Congrats!

I had a perfect recovery... i even went shopping after i got discharged from hospital...

Take it easy... stop worrying yourself to death, drink your liquid, take your PPI and meet your daily goals and you will do wonderfully..

You are one of the lucky ones.. so embrace the fact that it is all going well.... its not abnormal.. everyone heals differently.. you will be fine

First of all, your experience actually is the normal experience.

Seriously.

Sounds like my post-op experience.

Most people have a complication-free surgery, a fast recovery, and make their way relatively rapidly and without drama through the initial eating phases.

Then they lose weight.

And then they maintain their weight loss.

That's actually the standard route. :)

Congratulations.

I had no nausea, no gas pains, no problem drinking. I am in pain when I get off the couch or out of bed. I'm ok just sitting. Hopefully the pain will subside in a couple days. I had surgery on Monday.

You sound just like me! I went home on the same day of surgery. Most discomfort was that trapped gas. Virtually no pain. I was back to work on day 3 post op. It was like I didn't even have surgery. I was definitely blessed. ????

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
