Hello guys,

I had the gastric bypass rny April 27, 2016. Thus far I have lost 40lbs. I went back to work after being out for 5 weeks. I have a stressful job and I am noticing that when I get stressed out, my stomach starts hurting really BAD (like stabbing and throbbing pains). In addition, when I first started getting stressed post op, I would become off balance (and fell once at my home). I'm seriously considering my options, as my surgeon and his resident mentioned that I may have to explore other options. Has anyone else experienced any of this post op when it comes to being stressed? I'm kind of nervous and looking at making an appointment with my pcp or surgeon to see if I need an xray to check for any damage this may be causing my pouch...... I've tried looking up stuff online, but I figured that I should probably ask my fellow rny recipients as well.

Thanks,

Scrambled Social Worker

Some individuals who undergo RNY gastric bypass surgery experience Reactive Hypoglycemia. It is caused by low blood sugar a few hours after a meal. Here is a link that describes the condition. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diabetes/expert-answers/reactive-hypoglycemia/faq-20057778

This condition can cause you to faint or lose your balance. Signs and symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia may include hunger, weakness, shakiness, sleepiness, sweating, lightheadedness, anxiety and confusion. Generally those that experience this condition can manage it without much difficulty because they can detect the signs and take something (such as a small glass of fruit juice) to stop it. https://www.ridgeviewmedical.org/services/bariatric-weight-loss/enewsletter-articles/reactive-hypoglycemia-postgastric-bypass

It might be rather then the stress causing the fainting; is that the low blood sugar is causing the fainting and amplifying the stress.

I have no idea about the stomach pains. Maybe it is an ulcer.

Thanks James.... your post was a good read. I made an appointment with my pcp if or the morning and if necessary they'll refer me to the surgeon..... I know one thing for sure it's not a good feeling when it happens.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
