I am in my last month of counseling and I haven't lost any weight. Has any one else not lost any weight? I hope they will still approve my surgery. I am probably one of the fittest obese people and am very active. I literally just cannot lose weight.

I lost 3 lbs in 3 months. Woohoo. Lol My nutritionist said it wasn't about losing but learning healthy eating habits. Ask your nutritionist or surgeon? I know every program is different but I didn't have to lose. If you gained - I assume that would be an issue.

There are several aspects to the medically monitored weight loss program in addition to losing weight.

1. food journal that documents your meals. This is a good learning tool for knowing the calorie count on the meals that you eat. It documents your meals.

2. I also used the food journal to document my daily exercise.

3. I attended Bariatric Surgery Support Group meetings once per month during this time and received signed slips that showed my attendance.

So even though you might not lose weight during this time, you have a documentation trail that shows that you really tried. This process leads to a referral letter from the doctor to the surgeon's office that will become part of the packet forwarded to the insurance company to show compliance.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
