phyllser 3 Posted September 7, 2007 CLARAMAE:clap2:Right on!!!! I'm amazed that some doc.'s feel that is you are over 55 then life is not worth living longer or healthier. WOW. I went to the ticker factory.com and made a ticker, now I cannot figure out where to place the code for my ticker. <a href="Weight Loss - Diet Ticker"> <img border="0" src="<A href="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wvZA8yx/weight.png"></a">http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wvZA8yx/weight.png"></a> Put it there to see if anything shows up. Also I tried to get it to work in my profile Did you go to CPUser and try to edit your signature? I did a copy/paste of the bbc code and it worked.
Linzee 0 Posted September 7, 2007 Hi, I had the lapband procedure done in Sept. '06. I am now 63 yrs. old and have lost 40 lbs. That isn't much and I still am having trouble getting below that 40 lbs. Fruits and vegies stick and also salmon and chicken. So I take a Multi-Vitamin and hope that is helping. Anyway, I had mine done by dr. verboonen in Tiajuana and he is excellent. Teaches other doctors in Europe and has been doing this for over 20 yrs. The hospital where I stayed overnight was sparkling white and they were all so nice. I still have trouble remembering to eat really slow if I allow myself to get too hungry. Then I throw up and that isn't much fun. But I still would do it again and know it was the only thing that helped me to lose the 40 lbs. I did. I think if I stay on mostly Protein Drinks, I am better, but can't always get a Protein Drink as I am a realtor and on the go a lot. Then I eat crackers which are not especially good for you to lose weight on...anyway, write back if you wish and I'll try answer any questions you might have.... Much luck to you, Linzee
NM Sunshine 1 Posted September 7, 2007 Phyllser I finally gave up and pasted the code into the big square box, and it worked. Now I have a ticker. Linzee, What is your weight loss goal? I'm getting the lapband because I can't lose. I'm on this liquid pre-op diet and I gained a pound!!!!! It must be the thing about our metabolism slows down as we age. Have you tried the Atkins Protein drink in a can? Perhaps you could put them in some sort of insulated lunch box? Also there is those diet high Protein Bars.< /p> You mean that vegies and chicken stick to your pouch? I heard someone else say that. Wonder if you put them through a food processer, would that help? Also have you heard of the SouthBeach diet. My doc says that is the one to go on. Thanks for the support. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I approach the deadline. Kat817 19 Posted September 7, 2007 NM Sunshine, it isn't food actually sticking to the pouch section of our stomach, it is food getting stuck IN the pouch, not making it through the narrowed opening where our bands are placed. Sometimes you get stuck for obvious reasons---too big of a bite, or not chewing well enough. Then there are other times, that there is no rhyme nor reason why something will not go through. I know a girl who cannot eat jello---she PB's it EVERY time, all we can figure, is that instead of working its way down as the stomach works to digest it, it pushes it back into her esophagus. There are many who require a few sips of warm liquid to relax the esophagus, which for some reason will occasionally spasm, and nothing wants to swallow on down. Most times, you can figure out what will or what won't pass pretty easily---and figure out if it is something you did or did not do...and adjust accordingly. If it is one of those things your band just doesn't like, about all you can do is avoid it for the most part, and occasionally try a small amount, as the band is known to change its mind!!! Has your Dr. shown you HOW they will do the surgery? Why we refer to it as a pouch? Ask away---its the best way to get answers I was told!!!! Kat
NM Sunshine 1 Posted September 7, 2007 Kat, Yes the doc has told me a lot and I am free to email him with any questions. But I find the info I get on this forum to be the best. I'm finding out everything at the forum. Thanks for explaining that to me.
nicnaknut 0 Posted September 8, 2007 Hi everyone... Thanks for all of the great info that is being shared here... elinrw.... Congratulations on being banded just a week ago... So glad to hear you are doing so well... Most Dr's don't have an age limit when it comes to knee and hip replacement surgery.. My MIL was in her early 80's and had a knee and hip replaced.... The weight loss should give you some relief on your knees and hips. Good luck to you... Kat.... Thanks for the great info... It helpd me alot to understand how things work with the band... NM Sunshine.... I agree this is the best forum to get good information and support from.... Just think if you and I would not have found this forum we would not be getting banded and would have continued on being frustrated overweight people...... Happy Friday to all and have a great weekend....
NM Sunshine 1 Posted September 8, 2007 NICNAK I know that without this forum, I would not have gotten the surgery.
claramae 0 Posted September 8, 2007 Elinrw--I just read your post regarding hip and knee replacement. You are right, there is no age cut off from joint replacement, but why lapband?? Knee replacement was the most painful experience of my life. That knee still pains me even after 4 years of replacement. However, since I have lost nearly 20 pounds, the knee does not bother me. Go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tarheelladybug 0 Posted September 9, 2007 I've just begun my Quest into banding. They say the break-off age point is 65. I'm almost 63 and need to move fast. Us 'oldies' want to live and know that the excess fat will shorten our lives. I've been checking all the treads and everyone is below 50. But us 'grannies' have our own unique problems. And we face the potential of death from fat. 63 may sound old, but I want to live as much as I did in my 30's. I want to think of death as something that hits during the 90's. Hey! I'm 60 years young and will get banded Sept 20 in Mexico if all goes well. I'm nervous, but excited.
NM Sunshine 1 Posted September 9, 2007 tarheelladybug this is FatAttack, I changed my handle to something more positive. Guess what I get banded this Tuesday! I have been on my pre-op diet and me,dog &DH are taking our camping van to Tuscon so I can get my flight (it's an early one & Tuscon is 3 hours from us) I will be banded by Dr. Gonzalez in TJ, MX Course I know what that nervous/excited feeling is about. tarheelladybug 0 Posted September 9, 2007 Hi! Gosh, I wish you a good banding! I'm in North Carolina and will have a long flight before I get into San Diego, so I am planning to go down the day before. (The time change gets me) I will have 125 lbs to lose but nothing else has worked. I've been dieting for 40 years now LOL. It's strange, but I have a three month old grandaughter and she and I have an unusual bond, even though I have six other grandkids. I got to thinking about watching her grow up and realized that if I didn't do something about my weight that I wouldn't be here for her. So I am doing this as a gift for myself (for a change). I'll be thinking about you Tuesday!
NM Sunshine 1 Posted September 9, 2007 tarheel The research says you will live 40% longer with the band than without. Yes it makes a big difference. As soon as I committed myself to a doc and a date, I felt like I was doing something for me. Therapist has been telling me to do something for me, but couldn't get to that place until then Leaving today, be bac Friday.
pwhitecloud@hug 0 Posted September 9, 2007 :hungry:Hello, I'm 52 and I feel the same way. I live in Kansas and I ready to do or die. I'm in good health so far but I don't want to wait until it's to late. I have everything not working for me as far as insurance and money. but I plan on having the lapband. I looking to find the right doctor and the right hospital. So I am right here with ya.:faint:
NM Sunshine 1 Posted September 9, 2007 pwhitecloud How I wish I could have done this at 52. Once I hit my 60's all sorts of weight caused co-morbities set in. That's scary. But doc feels that the lapband will make a major difference in decreasing or healing them. Most of us who are self pay go to the Mexican doctors. Some of them are VERY good. Check out the threads on the doc.s. Also check out the thread on DR K (i'll get his name) ub Colorado. My doc is Dr. Gonzales in TJ, MX
NM Sunshine 1 Posted September 9, 2007 Calorado doc is Dr. Kirshenbaum, and there is a great thread on him. His fee is something like 9,500 and the MX docs run around 7,500.
