Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Recommended Posts

SW weight: 294, Cw (according to my scale...will get official weigh in Monday): 259. Feel like I am stuck right now but working to get it moving again. And 35 pounds for six weeks work (surgery was June 21) is still awesome.

I'm exploring foods now too. Caffeine was off limits for me too without a deadline to continue. I had to have something this week as during the school year I am up at 5 and in bed around 11 dealing with high energy gifted students every day lol. I am doing the Chike high Protein coffee drink. I love it (and the energy) but just like the last Protein Drink I tried, my stomach is starting to revolt. Not sitting well this morning. :( :( :(. I don't know how to fix that!

eggs are not my friend so I have been doing the shake in the morning and some Frigo turkey sticks and cheese for a later Breakfast. They run about 160 calories for both sticks and it's good Protein.

I am not allowed beef or pork until after week 8 so it's been a lot of chicken and fish here. I have been getting Lean Cuisine meals and eating the chicken and a little of the veggies. For once, those meals actually fill me up! Lol.

I started tracking everything and figured out I am getting way too few calories (433 one day) so I am trying to up that so my metabolism doesn't get screwed up.

Has anyone attempted alcohol yet? I had mine on June 27th and I'm not really a drinker and don't mind waiting for months down the road. But today is my moms bday so I was wondering if one cocktail would be a bad idea this soon? Opinions?

My surgeon said to wait until after 6 weeks. It is important to be able to handle solid food too. Don't drink on an empty stomach and don't be surprised if it hits you quicker than before. Enjoy!

I've had some alcohol, a little beer and a little cider. I'm not much of a cocktail drinker (except for gin and tonic, I could kill a pitcher of those by myself!) and I've been hesitant to have wine, since it always gave me heartburn pre-surgery. My doctor is very much a 'think about it and watch how it makes you feel' kind of guy about foods and/or alcohol. I don't have any 'can't ever eat' restrictions, like some docs seem to give to their patients. It's working for me, I'm finding myself making good decisions without having someone give me tight right and left limits on what I can do.

Ugh, I just ate some canned chicken for the first time and my stomach is UNHAPPY :( I'm pretty sure I'll never eat any meat from a can again for the rest of my life. Uuuuuuuggghhhhh...

Yeah I don't think chicken should be canned or beef not buying that tactic at mushy phase. I shred or chop my chicken.

My family was eating pizza and there wasn't anything thawed that I could cook. I need to slice some raw chicken breasts and wrap them for the freezer, those thaw in minutes. I was being lazy and learned THAT lesson! I had a sugar-free popsicle after my stomach settled, all is well now :)

Eww. I have never had canned chicken but I have 4 cans of it in the pantry I bought pre surgery. Now I have no desire to use them! Could you have had the topping off a slice of pizza? Then again, chicken sounds like a better option. I love sugar free popsicles. With the heat here, they have become a staple in my freezer. Glad you are feeling better.

Canned chicken is good if you have to make an appetizer for anything. Buffalo chicken dip etc. But yeah i won't eat it by itself blech!

Glad you made it thru Panda. Popsicles are very comforting!

I like the pre-made sliced chicken. it is hard to stay at the ready all the time. I fall back on the egg or hummus when meat is scarce. Both are a bit higher calorie than some meals. It is weird feeling like calories high if they go over 800 for day!

I'd never had it before either, and never will again. There are a couple more cans in my pantry and they're all going to the food bank. The pizza my guys had last night was one of those 'all the meats' kinds, those made me a little sick to my stomach before surgery so I decided to skip it...not that my alternative was any better :( And I agree about the popsicles, they're a staple here and I get a little antsy when the box gets low. The cold/sweet combo is a good replacement for the ice cream I used to have, and it settles my stomach and gives me fluids...what's not to like?

I need to go to Trader Joes and find the chicken/turkey that's pre-sliced. I should have gone for hummus but I was out of carrots and didn't want to eat crackers. And eggs are interesting for me now...I used to eat a lot of eggs, particularly when I was 'dieting', now I have to be careful as they don't always sit well. Poached in the morning is just about the only way I can eat them. I used to have a cast-iron stomach :)

And isn't it weird to get worried about going over 800 calories?? And to be capable of staying UNDER 800 calories? It blows my mind.

I'm stuck again, weight-wise, but clearly I'm losing inches and getting more muscle from exercise. I'll be at home alone this coming week so I should be able to manage my food exactly as I want, but then I travel for about 10 days, which will be a little challenging. I'll have a refrigerator at one hotel, but not at the other 2. I'll pack my Protein Powder, a bunch of Protein Bars and my water bottle. Any travel suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

A lot of hotels will provide a small refrigerator if you ask ahead of time. Let them know you have special dietary considerations. Worth a try anyway. Also, you can ship liquids and or other foods to hotels ahead of time instead of taking in suitcase. Just dont pack any canned chicken! Lol

That is a great idea for fridge. Having done events I would suggest that you tell them you have medical need for small fridge for medication. Best bet for those that do not provide them at all. They tend to keep a few for accommodations and this is a medical need.

I take some of the small 2 oz cups to use to measure on the fly.

As for shipping that is another good idea. I used my Amazon prime to its fullest when I had a long trip recently.

I can have Peanut Butter if you can, there are some brands that come 1 oz packs. Or pb powder is good. Also if conference as good excuse to explore fruits that you may not have tried and soups!

I had my six-week checkup today (tomorrow is really seven weeks though lol). I've lost 38 pounds and 22 inches! Very happy with that and I am cleared for workouts of any kind.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
