Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!! I'm new to this!! I had surgery he 23rd. They told me I could go through a slew of emotions after and boy are they right. I'm currently going through the regret phase. I know it will get better but it's hard. I had my gallbladder out at he same time so I'm having a lot of pain and getting the fluids down is soooo difficult for me. I had my follow up today and had to go to the hospital for 2liters of IV fluids. My roommate at the hospital had bypass and we keep in touch for support and she has been feeling great! This is tough stuff and definitely not easy! A lot of cramping.

How are you all doing? The support we can give each other is huge and I love the whole concept of it!

My surgery was on the 21st and today was the first day I felt close to 'normal'. My bowels have stopped constantly gurgling, it doesn't *hurt* every single time I swallow and I'm getting better at getting my fluids, although I'm still struggling to get 64 oz/day. It does get better, I promise! I'm sure having your gallbladder removed isn't making it any easier to recover :( I agree about the support, it's nice to be able to chat with others who are on the same track.

Is it weird that I been able to poop 3 times today? Also was able to get in more then 600 cal for the first time since the surgery.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Don't worry about it. 2 days post-op I was able to poop too. And until now (7 days post-op ) I have an easy stomach and I go 3 to 4 times a day. Maybe that's why I'm getting hungry? R u getting hungry too?

My sleeve was on the 23rd too. I had a hernia that they took care of. Well yes until yesterday and was feeling depressed with lots of regrets. I guess it's our body's way to cope with this change cause it really is life changing but believe it's for the best. Before you know, you will look at yourself in the mirror and you will b the happiest person ever. That's what I was told and I honestly can't wait for this moment to. Keep me posted with all the changes ok? Best of luck

Got sleeved on Monday (6/27) and also had a hiatal hernia repair. It gets a little better each day. Monday was rough--the anesthesia and the morphine didn't agree with me which resulted in me throwing up and dry heaving several times on Monday which was SO painful. I've been in and out of the regret stage, wondering why I did this to myself. But it gets a little better everyday. The pain from the gas they used during surgery that was trapped was very painful but it is slowly going away. I'm sure once things get more "normal" and results start to show and I can transition to soft foods it will continue to get better each day. Starting back on chewable vitamins and my anxiety med today (which is a capsule that can't be crushed or opened so I was instructed to continue to take it normally). I'm nervous about introducing non-liquids like the pills.

Two people at work had a pain button and were getting morphine. I had the sleeve and hernia also. I didn't get a pain button or morphine. I got IV pain meds. Dilauden I wonder why? If you are getting gas in the shoulder its Phrenic nerve pain and can be relieved with warm tea or warm drinks and a warm shower. It can come and go for about 5 weeks. Happens when we drink and eat now as it forces that gas back up. So weird. I can relieve mine now with the tea, the showers or the heating pad. Jealous of your pill swallowing. I would love to get to do that. My surgeon said I have to crush for at least 6 weeks. Apple sauce and pills mmmmm I'll never look at applesauce the same way after this :( lol

I had my sleeve surgery on June 21st. Everything tastes bad... Even Water. Has anyone else had this problem.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was 21st too! I have not found problem with really hot or really cold. I was on preop liquid for 2 weeks and now again all liquids. What I found after surgery was the smoothies were just not going to work for me this week at least. Esp vanilla premier which I had liked, not sure when I can do that one. Trying one this morning.

I changed to adding unflavored Isopure to broth and drinking some Isopure waters. I even added the unflavored to plain Water and it wasn't bad.

If you add to broth the trick is quick mixing and not too hot to avoid lumps.

Good luck!

It is interesting how each surgeon seems to have a different plan for preop, pain meds, and post op plans. Speaking of applesauce, I get to add that to my diet today for first time, but I have taken whole pills since day one. :-)

I have not been good about walking as it is so hot here. Have to drive to store or mall which takes longer than I walk BUT I am going to make myself do it. Any other suggestions for light exercise or movement?

Since we aren't supposed to be doing anything crazy one of the things I have been doing is a water bottle in each hand and doing arm exercises. It helps me with the gas too and they said if you have a stationary bike at home to do a few minutes of that. I do have one. Also - house work uuuggghhhh lol but it is exercise. So I've been doing all my dishes by hand so I have to stand and sweeping instead of lifting the vacuum and laundry ;) lol so not fun. Bet the mall is sounding better isn't it....

I was able to get a treadmill so that's what I have been doing to beat the heat. But my friend said she walked in her house just around and around. We were told walk ten minutes four times a day for the first week and then up it to 15. Heat index here has been over a 100 for a while so I am very glad for the treadmill lol

Had mine on the 27th and like I've already said my pain is very tolerable. Just got done walking around the house for 20 minutes. I try to do that at least every hour to an hour and a half. But I'm still struggling to get all my Water down. My pee was pretty dark this morning and I know that's not a good sign. Any tips on how to get it down? It doesn't hurt when I swallow it but I'm just so terrified of drinking too much at once and making myself get sick. Also Protein water, how much protein is everyone supposed to be getting at this point? My doctor said at least 15ml and I don't think I'm getting enough of that either.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
