I am on day 7 of my pre-op liquid diet. I have only lost 2lbs. Other people I know have dropped 20 or more on this. To top it off, I've only lost 8lbs total since Feb when I started my VSG journey. My doctor acts as if he doesn't believe that I've stuck to my diet, but is still doing my surgery Monday on what he says is my "word" that I am sticking to it. If I gain anything even an oz. before surgery, he will cancel that morning. What I'm really worried about is that if I'm basically starving myself now and not losing, is VSG going to even help me? I just don't understand why I can't drop the weight.

I would be frustrated too! And I think it is uncool for the doc to threaten you with denying the surgery.

Are you tracking your calories on the liquid diet? is it possible some of the stuff you are consuming has a lot of sugar in it? Are you about to start your period? Maybe talk with the Nutritionist and see if they have any suggestions?

I am on day 9 and not losing much either but I have been doing drinks and Protein bars on my own since February. Make sure you are getting enough Water and that you are actually getting all the Protein you need in a day. I was actually short changing myself on the pre-op diet and now I get an extra at night and its helping. People who are dropping 20 lbs or more may have more to lose than you do. I have learned not to base what my journey is becoming on anyone else. Don't worry... its going to work out.

I am sorry you are going through not losing weight. Maybe it is the broth. Cut the broth. It could be you are having TOO MUCH liquid. I hope and pray things change in your favor. I would sure hate for you to go through this whole process and in the end to not have the surgery. My prayers are for you!

I don't know your weight but I was big, BMI over 50, and I only lost 8 pounds on the 2 week prep diet. I went on to lose a total of 150 in 14 months.... Speed isn't the thing, you will do great. The thing is maintaining that loss for years.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
