Ok so I am going to get my surgery date this morning (yayyyy) and all I can think about is the recovery time. I don't want to miss that much work. I am a social worker and being away from my clients for 3 weeks.... Just scares me. But I do work an office job!

I know everyone is different! But for shytes and giggles, I'd like to know how long post op it took everyone to get back to work??

Hey fellow social worker here. I work with kids and do therapeutic work in homes as well as office based stuff. I was back at work after 2 weeks off and managed ok but still had some pain and discomfort sitting at my desk esp.

I know the feeling about leaving your clients but this will make you better at you job i think with the increased energy, so a little loss for bigger gain!!!

I was back to work in just over 3 weeks. I wish I could have stayed out longer but the bills call lol. One the other hand, I have a friend that had the surgery and was back to work in just under 2 weeks. Just depends on how you feel and what you think you can tolerate.

Awesome!! I was doing home based behavior mods when I live in RI and I moved to NJ and have yet to find a company I like as much as the one in RI so right now I'm working with Homeless Vets in a transitional program. Granted I'm up and down 450 times a day, I do work in the office lol. Thanks for the cramp advice though, I thought sitting would be easier, but maybe being slightly more active will be better.

I really appreciate it!

I was off about 10 days and then I worked 6 hour days for the rest of the first month. (got cleared to return at one week check up, but then it was the weekend.

that allowed me to go back to work but still manage learning to eat and drink and walk - plus take the occasional nap

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
