After my EGD. My doctor is not comfortable with the Sleeve. He now suggest Bypass which makes me nervous. Any advice would be great. Should I even be nervous or give up on my journey?

I wouldn't be nervous, and I don't know why you would give up your journey for better health. Both surgeries are very effective and have long term benefits. The sleeve is a little less complex surgery than the bypass and perhaps requires slightly less behavioral changes post-surgery, but on the other side of the coin the long term weight loss of the bypass seems to be a little better than the sleeve.

I know people who have done very well with both surgeries. It is worthwhile to push your surgeon for more information so that you understand and are comfortable with his advice.

I have Barrett's which affects your esophagus and stomach. Doing the bypass will eliminate the stomach acid. Which will help with the pre-cancerous cells found in patients with Barrett's.

It sounds like your doctor has good reason to make the recommendation he's making. You can definitely have equal success with either surgery. The surgery is a tool. The extent to which you are successful depends on your use of the tool. Don't give up! It's just a change in plans! Good luck!

Don't give up! Get all the education you need about Bypass and I'm sure you will be more comfortable with the decision.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
