I am sad today. Disappointing realization.

Hello and thanks for reading.

I had a sleep study done last week, and I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. After speaking with the Lung, Asthma, and Sleep people it turns out that I will not receive "clearance for surgery" for at least 5 weeks. I was planning on visiting family (primarily my 7 yr old daughter) at the end of July 1,500 miles away and was hoping I was to get the surgery beforehand. Reality check ... Not gonna happen.

So, I will now anticipate surgery date in September. I am bummed.

it is hard to come up against these setbacks. I hope you can use the time to prepare for your new life.

I know what a bummer this must be for you. So sorry you have to experience it.

However, you will be surprised how fast the time will go. Start prepping your home and yourself for the upcoming and drastic change in your life.

There's much to do. Much to read. Many questions to ask. Lots of research to do.

Keep posting and asking. Your surgery will be here before you know it.

In the meantime get a headstart with these basic principle that most of us have to adopt anyway........

Eat lean Protein first and plenty of it...then non-starchy veggies.....then if you want dessert it needs to be an apple and not apple pie for example.

Do not eat anything made in a factory.

Drink Water until your eyeballs float.

Do not become part of the sofa.

that is sucky @@MommaMia, but everything happens for a reason! Maybe it wasnt meant for you to have the surgery before the trip hun. this might actually be better for you! as the ladies mentioned, you could use this time to get accustomed to how you should be eating after surgery and taking care of business now so that you can comfortably heal in peace/worry free! keep busy! read more. the time will fly. atleast you know you ARE getting it. im over here hoping I can get ANY date! :P lol cheer up hun. it'll be here before you know it :)

I know its annoying to have to wait even longer for the surgery you have worked so hard to receive. However I think you should look at this from an entirely different perspective. When you have the surgery you want to be sure that you are at your healthiest and that all potential roadblocks have been taken care of (i.e. sleep apnea). You dont want to rush into a procedure and your body not be totally ready for this. Wls can be lifesaving but its still a surgery and a very big deal September will be here before you know it.

Hi,

Last week one of the pre-op doctors and I almost came to blows. First off I have an IUD and am 49 do not have a partner. But I had not taken a pregnancy test. We went back and forth and he said "do you want your date canceled"? So I went ahead and took the test. The next day I was sleeved, 6/8. They will find any little things including weight gain to make sure you are ready. So just hang in there and brace yourself for these things. And do not be like me and wait to kick caffeine. Going through recovery and having the headache from hell was not fun. So you will be able to breath and sleep better going forward after the having the study. Just do what they say and keep on track. I am so hungry right now it is crazy. Go ahead and eat something you really, really like not overboard and not same week of surgeryand follow it up with walking to burn the calories. If you gain even an ounce though they will stop you. Just be smart about it. Funny my daughter is 15 her name is also Mia, that was my screen name for along time MamaMia. Wishing you all the best, be strong! Walk, walk, walk! My start weight was 280.1 currently at 235 post-op. Still getting rid of the surgical gas that stays in your body. It is no joke it hurt my shoulders and neck but went away in a couple days. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. Good luck! Michele

Wow, this time HAS really flown by! I am reposting this thread so it can give encouragement to those that need it coming from the wonderful ladies that responded and reached out to me.

I sleep SO much better with my CPAP machine, and I am so grateful I was diagnosed with sleep apnea because I had no energy before and now I feel great.

My surgery is next week and time has flown by!!! To

This is great to hear. Other than WLS, being diagnosed and treated for sleep apnea is one of the major things that changed my quality of life for the better.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
