I'm nearly 2 months post op. I haven't dined out or drank alcohol for over 2 months. Next week I have to travel for work. I'll be out of the safety of my own environment. ANY ADVISE PLEASE. What should I eat? What should I drink? I don't want going out to eat with coworkers to be an issue. I don't want them staring at me wondering how much or what I'll eat. How do I painlessly order from a restaurant with confidence?

I usually order a couple of meat-based appetizers or small plates -- seared scallops, beef carpaccio, meatballs, wings, whatever the restaurant has on offer. Pick at both of them. Alternatively, order some sort of grilled meat entree (salmon, chicken, steak) and just ignore whatever comes as a carb-based side.

If anyone comments on what you are eating, or how much, just say that your doctor has you on a strict low carb, low calorie diet because you need to lose weight. Really, most people will not notice or comment on your food choices (doing so is really incredibly rude) but if they do, invoking your doctor and your health, in a polite way, will shut them up and keep them from trying to talk you into ordering dessert or something.

Stick with drinking Water, or coffee or tea if allowed. If anyone says something like "not a glass of wine?" or "no drinking?" just say, no, doctor's orders, I can't have that right now.

chicken Caesar salad is on almost every menu. It is easy to just pick the chicken out and move the salad around. You are 2 months so you can probably barely eat the amount of chicken, but you can make a big show of it and it will look like you are eating more.

First thing when you arrive on your trip, find some Protein shakes/bars to keep in your room/purse.

I've been out many times and people don't really lay attention to what you are eating. Just as long as you have something. I usually order an appetizer or a salad with chicken. And just because someone else is having a drink doesn't mean you have to have one.

I agree with what's been said. I usually order something mostly Protein. chicken or Fish and then just ask for veggies with it no Pasta, potatoes or rolls. I say I am working with a nutritionist and need to stick to my plan. I order a Water and just take a little sip or two. For the most part people don't notice that much. Make sure you pack lots of Protein Snacks though in case you are out and about or stuck in meetings. Be prepared. Bring a refillable water bottle. I am really bad about drinking my Water when I travel for business. I don't know why.

Good luck-You got this :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
