Fun ideas for celebrating "surgiversary"?

Recommended Posts

Today is my one year anniversary of my surgery. It has been an amazing year and I have lost 180 pounds. I have reached my goal weight and I'm thrilled. In the old days, going out to eat would have been the way to Celebrate. That's not the case now. I'm looking for fun ways to Celebrate my surgiversary. Any ideas? :D

I went on a cruise with some ladies I met on these boards (when it was still vertical sleeve talk). We all had our surgeries mid June, and celebrated our one year surgiversary together. It was a good time

Edited to add: Happy Surgiversary! And congrats on your weight loss! You rocked it!

I'll be getting a tattoo to Celebrate a year since surgery and close to 200 pounds lost! Though I can see how that may be a little TOO celebratory for most people. :)

Massage is a great idea! Shopping is always good. It might be fun to look around for something new to do in honor of the new you. Short flight somewhere? Boat ride? Amusement park?! I would love to find a roller coaster or other fun ride when I feel safe in the safety gear. Bumper cars? Dune Buggies? It really depends on what you are near!

Have a grown up party at a trampoline bounce gym! Go sunset kayaking with friends! Go backpacking! Splurge on something pretty and go dancing!

I am far, far from my one year surgiversary, but I'd like to think that it would be a super fun treat to do a silly and active activity with friends to celebrate.... or mark off a bucket list item!!

These are all great ideas! I decided to treat myself to a season pass at Carowinds. I love roller coasters and my butt now fits in the seats. Yay! I haven't been able to ride anything for the last several years. I'm looking forward to riding the rides all summer long.

Go to a nude beach and show everyone what you got!!!

In all seriousness, I just want to throw it out there that CharlotteKat is a very dear friend of mine and she looks absolutely amazing. I met her in the fall and cannot believe how stunning and beautiful she looks. I had the surgery about a year before she did and she inspires me every day to stay on the "program". She is a shining example of a success story.

Luanndo,

You are the most beautiful person! Not me! You are the best!!! I wish everyone had a friend who is as wonderful as you are! If it wasn't for Bariatric Pal, we would have never met each other. My life is so much better because you reached out to me via this site. No one else understands what you are going through as the people who share the same surgeon and the same surgery. We traveled the same path. This site is a powerful source of support.

This journey is not an easy one. It is a life changing event. There are remarkable people who you will meet along the way via their posts on Bariatric Pal. "Luanndo" contacted me when I knew no one. How lucky I am to find a kindred spirit!

If you read this post, please think about reaching out to other people who are sharing the same journey. The rewards are immeasurable!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
