My nutritionist has requested that I start a food journal and try to eat less than 100 carbs a day!!! Does anyone have any tips for food journaling? Or ways to keep below 100 carbs? Thank you all so much!

You can journal or track with free apps on your phone (My Fitness Pal). Aim for meals of Protein and produce. Avoid bread, Pasta, rice, candy, Cookies, etc. Find food that has less tha 5 gms sugar (except whole fruits or natural sugars). However - your Nutritionist should have given you guidelines or advice on an eating plan. That's her job!

I've been using MyFitnessPal on my iPhone since I started with my team on May 11. My goals are 8 grams of Protein and less than 5 grams of carbs in a single serving of whatever I eat. I've limited my calories to 1230 a day and I have plenty of things that fall within that number. The biggest issue for me is planning lunch -- a sandwich will throw your carb count completely out of whack. In the last 30 days, I've only had 6 days where I was over 100 grams of carbs - and two of those were while I was away for a 4 day weekend over Memorial Day. Surf Pinterest boards for Atkins recipes -- Atkins is high Protein low carb. I limit myself to Pasta once every 2 weeks. If I have rice, I only have 1/4 cup (I use an ice cream scoop - it's a perfect 1/4 cup) and only have the occasional baked potato.

For lunches at work (I use a chilled lunch box - I don't have access to a fridge or a microwave), I take some tuna or chicken salad I make, a nice size salad of greens, 1.5 T of homemade ranch dressing and I'm usually pretty full. To be safe, I always through a couple of cheese sticks in my lunch box to snack on if I need it. The first week cutting back on carbs is the worst -- you will have headaches and be cranky as you go through carb withdrawal.

Eat good carbs such as broccoli and cauliflower. Vegetables are good to eat, I always make more veggies than anything else. I found this picture on Pinterest the other day that might help.post-293894-14660256178607_thumb.jpg

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
