On the road ideas???

Recommended Posts

Ok we may have to evacuate for Hurricane Dean and last time we had to evacuate it took us 32hrs to get somewhere it should of taken 5 for Hurricane Rita.I am just trying to prepare and needing ideas of food I can take on the road with me that does not to be cooked or cold.Last time we lived on chips and little debbies!! We were not prepared for a 32hr traffic jam with NOWHERE to stop.Needless to say I am praying for the Hurricane to stay on it's projected path(although we have a trip planed to Playa Del Carmen in Sept:rolleyes) Any ideas would greatly be appreciated!

You can never go wrong with protien bars. You can eat them just like a candy bar. They are good for you, keep hunger away and keep your blood sugar up! ;)

Other things:

1. pretzels

2. fruit roll ups.

lol...I am drawing a blank other than that. We went through Bertha, and another one in NC so I KNOW what you are going through! Good luck!

Some thoughts would be:

BumbleBee (great stuff)

Netrition's Kitchen Table Bakers Prices (great crunchy, carb free, Protein filled, crackers)

Syntrax Matrix 5.0 Protein powder (I travel quite a bit and keep it in my car at all times with bottled water)

Gift Baskets, Dried Fruits, Nuts (Veggie chips or dried fruit)

ready to eat meals, Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, Militaria items on eBay.com (Ready to eat meals)

My husband and I traveled by truck 22,000 miles in two months and I kept the flavored tuna and salmon cups ( my fav was cajun and honey BBQ, and good source of protein), rye krisp or simalar crackers, almonds, Jerky, Water w/crystal light to go. I also have a small crockpot that plugs into the lighter socket and I baked Marie Callenders, dry mix, just add water corn bread (while moving) it bakes in about 1 hour. I also have a plug in pot that heats water for cup of Soups or broth. Both items can be bought at most truck stops like Petro, Pilot, TA, or Flying J. Best of luck

Our Dollar General/Family Dollar in this area has a package of a little tuna/ham/chicken (your choice) salad and a little pack of crackers. We keep them in our RV. Not sure of calorie/protein/fat content tho. They are $1.10. Cant beat that. Also StarKist has the little 2.8oz cans of plain tuna. Scranle up some eggs with cheese or hard boiled eggs and put them in an ice cooler. I recently did the scrambled eggs and took them on vacation with us. Warm up real good in the microwave. Stay safe

ok so this is gonna sound...odd, but i love it

I make this for my school lunches and eat them as I walk around campus..

I take a slice of pickle, and put fat free cream cheese on it, then roll up a couple slices of thin sliced lunch meat...i know its some what odd but I like it because I can keep it in a baggie, and its different from things like tuna..bc I eat enough tuna that I might grow fins!!

Also suggestions, I buy these little oranges, theyre like less than a dollar a piece, and perfect for me, because they take a while to eat bc you have to peel, and still small, this way its not so noticable on the amount of food I eat :)

good luck with the hurricane..this is coming from someone who spent DAYS on the road bc of Hurricane Rita..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
