I am 9 weeks post op from a RNY and things are going well. I'm losing an average of 0.5 lbs a day (yes, I weigh myself daily). I have lots of hair and haven't noticed any thinning yet. Is Hair loss a given and how far down the road?

hair loss is not a given. Mine started right around the beginning of month 3. It was severe and did not stop until my weight loss slowed to a crawl which was around month 13.

I lost so much hair that I was shocked that I had any on my head at all. Now I am 21 months post op and my hair is very very thick and it came back very curly. I am having to learn how to manage it differently because of how curly it has become. I spoke with my dermatologist about it because he specializes in hair as well and he said it is common for your hair to change once you go through something so extraordinary. The same thing happens with cancer patients.

I love my new hair and it was totally worth every worry. I am slightly below goal at 161lbs down, almost 150lbs. I look great and feel even better.

I am currently about 4 1/2 months out. At 4 months I noticed more hair coming out in the shower and in my brush. I don't notice it when I look in the mirror. I started taking Biotin a few months before my RNY which was in February. I have since lost 101 lbs! I still take my Biotin and Bariatric Vitamins everyday of course! I hope this answer helps you and congratulations on the beginning of your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
