Heartburn & Sore Throat... ouch!

Recommended Posts

Okay.... so its been 2 weeks that I've had this issue now.

I eliminated all spices and herbs from my diet, stuck to poached poultry and steamed foods... stayed away from pretty much everything with no improvement.

I did notice that it seemed to get worse a couple of hours after taking my PPI. Which i though was odd.

So, I spoke with the surgeon, he said to double my dose to 40mg.. 20mg on the morning and 20mg in the evening.

So i tried it 3 days go... and omg i had the worst heartburn and regurgitation... and could barely sleep.

So. The last 2 days i haven't taken my PPI at all..... and guess what... gone... completely gone.... the ppi is what is causing the issues i think.

I'm giving it a few days before i confirm that its not just a honeymoon period of feeling better. ... but I'm pretty sure thats it.

I have gerd and I have the same symptoms when I don't take my meds so yours mite not be strong enough

How have u been I think we got sleeved the same day ❤

I've been great.... everything is back to how i was pre surgery... I've had catch ups with friends, full day outings, I've attended dinner parties... and no one can tell I've had WLS... they all have commented on how good i am looking and my story of eating high Protein and low carb is believable... so I've been able to be treated normally too.

How are you feeling now? Hows your recovery?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
