Newbandster 0 Posted December 1, 2004 Good day everyone, I was banded on Monday, November 29, 2004. I'm in a great deal of pain but I'm dealing with it. I'm a little concerned because I haven't had a bowel movement since surgery. Is this normal? My stomach seems to be making some weird noises. I don't know if it is growling or what. I'm not hungry though. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Iluvharleys 15 Posted December 1, 2004 Welcome to bandland! Yes, that is normal! Walk as much as you can, it will help with the gas pains. Sip, sip, sip that water! Make sure you follow all your doctors instructions, every doctor is different. Good Luck and keep us posted.
blossom 2 Posted December 1, 2004 Congratulations! Yes it is normal to not have a bowel movement, especially if you have been on the liquid diet some drs. require pre-op. However, don't be surprised if you have a little diareah, that is normal, too.
leatha_g 4 Posted December 1, 2004 Try some warm apple juice. Sometimes it takes awhile for our tummy to 'wake up' after surgeries. The apple juice may help to soften things up and get them moving. Then, the liquids kick in and everything is too loose for a few days. It'll all get back to normal after a few days. Glad to hear everything went well! Please keep us posted on your progress! lisaWA 0 Posted December 2, 2004 I am surprised to hear that people are having pain. I had a little soreness but no pain. Did you have the open surgery? Which docter did you have? Hope you are feeling better soon. Lisa
Newbandster 0 Posted December 2, 2004 Thank you for all of your encouraging responses. I think I'm just very gassy now. Is it normal to feel the pain in the middle of your chest. I'm hoping it's only gas. I did get a slight case of diarieah. So I'm feeling better about that. It's just that I though the gas would be in the very beginning and since I didn't have any, I thougt I was in the clear. I'm getting sharp pains in my stomach too. More gas??? Thanks for all your help. It feels so good to have this support group online.
Kelly Ann 0 Posted December 2, 2004 Welcome, gas pains for me were awful!!!! I was banded 10/19. I had pressure in my chest and pain in my back ,shoulders and neck. It was rough but it gets better. I took gas -x and maalox like crazy and tried to push my knees into my chest or simulate (as best as I could after surgery )a spine stretch . I actually burped a looong loud burp and felt better as well as the other .... iI kept this up changing positions, gas-x , walking, and hoped to release the gas. It will help everyday it gets better....I wish you well hope you get all better asap!!!
Kelly Ann 0 Posted December 2, 2004 oh and one more thing ....stick to your diet as the doctor told you or you will have gas and pain. I did liquids two weeks and softs two weeks. WHen I tried too soon to eat a solid I regretted it deeply with major pain for an entire two days.... Thank God the piece of chicken I ate did eventually get down and stay down...Take care.
