It depends on your surgical team's rules. My team's rules were (for all foods, not just refried beans)

puree stage (weeks 4 - 8): max 3 tablespoons of food

soft food stage (months 2 - 6): max 3 oz. of food

My recommendation for all foods at the beginning was 1/3 cup.

I have a food scale. you put your dish on it and hit tare so it won't count the dish, and then add the food.

I don't really get full. I just eat what I am supposed to and I don't feel hungry so I stop.

earlier when I could only eat a few spoonfulls I just got to a point where I didn't want any more. sometimes my nose would drip.

I see many of you eat refried Beans. What's the recommended serving size please? Thanks!

I just go by the recommended serving on the can (if I am eating canned). My first soft food was pinto's and cheese from Taco Bell on my way home from a follow-up appointment. It took me a couple of meals to finish one serving (half cup). It didn't take very long for me to eventually be able to eat the whole serving.

For all foods at all stages, I simply ate one small teaspoon at a time, waited about a minute between bites and stopped when I was satisfied but not full. I never measured portions and was actually never told to.

Sometimes all it took was a hiccup or slight pressure at the bottom of my rib age to indicate I was full. If I felt that, I knew to eat one bite less the next time. I didn't want to get back in the habit of eating till I was full or thinking I had to clean my plate...that's how I got fat in the first place.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
