ReShape balloon

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled to have my ReShape balloon inserted on 7/7.

I've so far lost 8 pounds since making the decision on 5/26. (Starting weight 265, current weight 257.) I'm hoping to be closer to 250 by my procedure date.

I'm nervous but excited to take this proactive step. My immediate goal is to get enough weight off that I can exercise somewhere other than the pool - right now the pressure on my joints is enough that it's dangerous for me to go barefoot or do any exercise that requires shifting all my weight to one foot.

Reading everyone's stories has been a huge help as has talking with three close friends who have lost 100+ pounds (two who have kept it off, one who has not) and trying to learn from their individual journeys.

Congrats on your decision to lead a healthier lifestyle! Please keep us updated on your journey. It's super helpful to others that are contemplating getting the ReShape or Orbera Intragstric balloon (my dad included!)

Curious, what made you go with the ReShape vs. the Orbera balloon? Was ReShape what your surgeon offered or was it a choice you made on your own?

I work in healthcare and read about all the procedures. I talked to two surgeons - one who offered Orbera and one who offered ReShape and I felt that I'd have more support and success with ReShape. I also liked the dual balloon structure - in the unlikely event of a deflation, less likelihood of migration to my intestines before it could be endoscopically removed.

My current BMI is 40. My ultimate goal is to be below 25 but my 12 month goal is to get as far below 30 as I can. My 6 month goal with the balloon is to take off enough weight that I can comfortably workout at least 5x weekly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
