It's been a while since I've been on this, my favourite site. Just wanted to say hello to everyone. It's been a very eventful few weeks. My Dad had a "mini-stroke", congestive heart failure, and both he and my mom have pneumonia. So I have been a busy and dutiful daughter. Trying hard to stay with the programme, and get my first fill on Monday, August 20. I'm nervous and excited about this, but wonder how I will know what my Sweet Spot is. I know that if I can't hold down solids or fluids, I am too tight, but how to know if I'm not tight enough?

I'm on solids now for the past two weeks, and doing okay, although I probably could be going for more variety, and am still having Soup and/or those small cans of flavoured tuna for lunch and also, sometimes, for dinner. Am avoiding junk food, bread and carbonated beverages. I just need more variety and imagination, I guess.

I am losing weight- about 46 lbs from my high of 232 lbs. , so I guess I should be happy. But I'm worried I may not be eating enough, and enough variety, to get proper nutrition . What are people eating????????:rolleyes:rolleyes:rolleyes

Hi Lisa, sounds like you have alot on your plate this last while. I hope your parents get well soon. From my own personal experience I know that it can be a very emotional time. I hope you have alot of support around you.

Don't worry, you'll know your sweet spot when you hit it. As you progress thru your fills you get to know what restriction really is and how to manage your food intake accordingly.

Mostly just make sure you are eating enough Protein like meats and dairy products, balance this with veggies and fresh fruit and you'll be doing well. Of course restrict Desserts and treats but I don't think you have to eliminate them completely, at least that's my opinion. Others may choose to if sweets trigger uncontrolable eating patterns. You can use Fitday.com to help you keep track of what you're eating. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you are taking great care of your parents but don't forget to take care of yourself as well.

Thanks, Janice, for your wise words. Wish I'd read them before having my very first "pig-out" since being banded July 5th!!! Talk about stress-induced eating! I'm sick with worry now that I've stretched out my pouch. Tomorrow is my first fill, and I'm a bit nervous. But after today's disaster, I'm almost looking forward to a day or two of clear fluids, just to feel back in control again.

Gotta watch out for that emotional eating!!

Hi: Don't worry about your eating. You are under enough stress as it is. Just try to follow the one cup rule. 3oz of Protein and the rest veggies/fruit. As for the sweet spot, I think that is over emphasized. As long as you are loosing weight, you don't need more fill. I have good restriction at 4 ccs and others tell me the normal is 6 to 8 ccs for Fr. Midbands. Your band is a tool to help you learn how to eat properly and healthy at the same time to loose weight. You seem to be doing that. Good luck. Doddie.

Thanks Doddie.

I had my first fill today! I have the 10 cc. Inamed band, and intially got 3 cc's, but started sliming and belching and became unable to swallow Water, so she defilled 1cc, leaving me with 2 cc. I feel comfortable at this level, and would rather go slow than be too tight. On fluids now for 24 hours then will see how I do with solids. I feel stronger today, and ready to eat more wisely.

By the way, my parents are both slowly on the mend. Thanks, all, for your thoughts and support.

This sight is so dynamite. None of the other people being filled today were aware of it.

Yes, stress will cause sliming even with a few ccs. I don't know the scientific angle but do know stress has a lot to do with how your band allows food to pass thru.

A footnote, my brother died one hour ago and I am surfing the net to keep out of the frig. I have known for three years this was coming but even knowing, the shock is still great.

Don't make any fill decisions when under stress. I must follow my own advice. Glad your family is on the mend. That is great news. Doddie

I am so sorry to hear about your brother. Even when we have lots of time to get used to a loved one's illness, the reality and finality still hits like a ton of bricks. Please take care of yourself, and allow yourself to cry and grieve.

Hi Lisa,

Patricia here from Markham, how was your first fill? I don't get mine until the 24th of September and am a little anxious. Where did you get banded?

That's great. Call your obgyn now to make an appointment because it will take forever to see him. That way you won't have to wait to much longer after the bowel thing.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
