Congratulations hun!

I don't really get the whole health care system in the states, it seems so foreign to me... but i am assuming this means you are getting close till you get a surgery date??? You must be excited! Do they give you a time frame?

It's foreign to us too! Lol. Once insurance approves I can start pre-op testing and then meet with the surgeon for a surgery date. I'm hoping for late August or early September.

God its so complicated!!!!!

For us its... get a referral from your doctor. .. meet surgeon... decide on surgery.. get a date... meet with nut/psych... get chopped up. .. simple!

It took me 3 weeks from start to finish and thats including my pre op diet!!

Thanks kathy...

We don't really have the whole insurance stuff here... so i guess that makes it easier.

We have private health insurance. . Which cover a large portion or you can self pay...

It was pretty quick... but this time i didn't need to see the psych... they already knew i was crazy from when i had my band lol

Congrats! Hope everything goes smoothly and quickly for you.

@

That's pretty much how my process went. Except in my case add 3 months between 'decide on surgery' and 'get a date' because my insurance required a medically supervised weight loss plan before approving.

But still, relatively painless.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
