Protein shakes - no aspartame or splenda

Recommended Posts

I am looking for Protein Shakes that don't contain artificial sweetners or splenda, but are still bariatric friendly. I guess that leaves stevia?

I am not familiar with any off the top of my head. Someone else may have some suggestions. I suggest that you talk to someone at a store like GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe. Your NUT should also have some ideas.

I purchased an unflavored grass-fed whey Protein powder from Amazon. It literally has one ingredient.

I have been enjoying the Natural Force organic chocolate whey. It can get a little foamy, but it isn't too sweet and only has a few ingredients. I used to use Tera's Whey, another organic brand that uses stevia, but the flavor was not very good.

Jay Robb whey isolate uses stevia as the sweetener. It has great numbers (calories/carbs/protein) and I really like the taste. You can buy it online

including sample sizes. BTW if that link gets hijacked by the coding at this site, just google Jay Robb whey Protein and it will take you there.

Also, you can find Jay Robb at other websites and they sell it at some grocery stores (I know they sell it at my Kroger) and you may also find it at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc.

About Time is another protein brand with great numbers and lots of flavors. You can also buy samples from them. I didn't like the taste quite as much as Jay Robb, but that's really an individual thing so it's probably worth it to give them a try.

You can poke around their site and find more size and flavor options etc.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I really hate fake sugars. Aspartame and Splenda taste like bitter poison to me.

Finding Protein shakes that are low in sugar but don't use either of those sweeteners is a challenge! I'm preop and trying to find options that will work post surgery. I suspect I'll need to figure out ways to use the unflavored whey powders.

I've been using Calnutrale "Svelte" shakes. They have stevia and taste pretty good but they only have about 11g of Protein.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
