I just visited my Dr for my 3 month routine because I'm type 2 diabetic with high blood pressure and sleep apnea. I'm for my first baractic dr visit in 2 days on Wednesday the 15th. Since I started my journey I've changed my lifestyle and eating habits. It's more and Atkins or ketogenic diet. meats, fats, low carb veggies. My numbers starting weight since my last dr visit 3 months was 297 and today I'm down to 270 and blood pressure 128/78 down from 159/90. He feels that I shouldn't have the surgery (vsg)because of the risk and I'm loosing weight. I have one day to make make up mind. I would welcome any comments. Thanks guys

I had the surgery at the weight of 235. One of the reasons I did it was because my blood pressure was not getting any better, and I had already had a stroke at the weight of 185.

most people who loose weight gain it back. I guess it all depends on if you think you can follow this diet for the rest of your life without surgery or else how many times are you willing to yo yo back and forth.

for me, I was more afraid of the obesity than the surgery - but only you can make that decision for yourself.

Thanks I appreciate it. I know because of my health problems I make some changes because I'm not getting better. I know baractic is only a tool and a restrictive one at that.

you're right that it's only a tool, but my goodness what a powerful tool it is!

most people who have the surgery - once they are past the first rough weeks are absolutely glad they did it and only wish they had done so sooner.

Only 5% or less of morbidly obese people keep off weight they've lost on their own. That's a scary statistic! I lost and gained several times over the years - I need to have WLS to give me a better chance to lose a significant amount and keep it off! Good luck at your consult!

I'm 5'9", 46 years old, and I have successfully lost the weight, twice, on my own. I've successfully gained it back twice, as well. I was struggling to lose it a third time, and I don't want to repeat the process every ten years. I was/am a type 2 diabetic, hypertensive, high cholesterol, and I have apnea, as well.

The greatest part of having this new tool is the lack of hunger. I cannot stress this enough, at least for myself. I've always battled the cravings, snacking, and grazing. I feel as free as the day I realized I no longer craved a cigarette (I smoked a pack a day for 11 years).

Another consideration for me was that I wanted to get the surgery done before age became a factor. My procedure went smoothly and recover was easy, so I think I am very lucky, but not unique.

Also, no one around me "supported" my decision to have surgery. My wife and family, as well as the family doctor, all were around when I lost the weight "the hard way" before and encouraged me to "just do it again." No one really knows what you struggle with but you.

Anyway, my high weight was 401, my consultation weight was 326, my surgery weight was 308, and today I am 262. And I'm off all meds. Totally worth it.

Thanks Seige for your story it was inspirational. Like you I've lost weight in the past and only to regain and then some. I've only been this large for about the past 6 years and before that my weigh fluctuated around 230 to 260. Even around 220 I was on 3 bp meds

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
