I was allowed Decaf within a month, but really didn't have a taste for it for awhile following surgery. I've been back on my half and half caff routine now for many months without any problems. I just make certain I include my coffee beverages on my meal tracker because I drink sissy coffee in the morning's which means they aren't calorie or fat free and usually make a Lisa Latte in the afternoon (named after me :D ). Enjoy it when you can!

I never went "off" coffee. With my team's knowledge and approval I included coffee into my WLS journey daily menu.

Since each surgeon has his/her own WLS plan, you should always check with them about add/deleting anything from your regime.

It never hurts to ask.

Let us know what they say.

Prayers going up.

I was allowed regular coffee at 30 days post-op, but it had to be heavily diluted with milk/cream in the beginning and only one cup a day.

I was allowed it at one month, but in the beginning it gave me somewhat of a sour stomach, and I really don't want to spend my life on a ppi if I can help it so I treated it like a dessert, only occasionally.

now at 4 months it doesn't bother me at all, so I have it most every work day. I use half and half and stevia or sugar.

From what I recall, I was allowed Decaf coffee very early on; regular coffee they wanted me to wait ~3-4 weeks.

Either one can be acidic, so take that into effect.

Follow your surgeon's recommendations.

I began drinking diluted low-acid coffee a week post-op, but very cautiously. I took tiny sips of about half a cup to see how my body would react. I never experienced any problems with it, so I gradually increased to the amount of coffee I drank prior to surgery. Folger's has a coffee specifically designed to be more gentle on the stomach, and Trader Joe's has a low-acid French roast that is really lovely. You can get it Decaf or caffeinated I believe. I put unflavored Protein Powder in my morning coffee along with Fairlife milk (higher in protein) to accomplish two goals in one cup. :)

I had coffee about 3 months out. I now have it occasionally and still can't finish a whole cup. I on the other hand love the Starbucks very berry refreshers, I can drink them all day (I don't but I could lol)

I was allowed coffee, while still in the hospital.

My surgeon didn't want me to have caffeine withdrawals .....

For me, I have had no issues with it, at all.

I have brewed coffee with milk in the mornings, and later on I drink de-caf ....

When out, I enjoy a Cappuccino :)

I have 1/2 of a cup of Decaf every couple of days 6 weeks post-op with just a small amount of FF half and half. Caffeine is a no-no for me right now.

Seems like it was at my one month checkup. I asked and was allowed a couple cups each day.

Beware of Starbucks at this point, though. Much of their offerings are calorie dense and even their basic coffee (no calories) is brewed fairly strong and can be too much on a healing sleeve.

Now, though......a trip to Starbuck's for a venti dark roast with cream & Splenda is a real treat that indulge in often.

My surgeon said if it doesn't bother me and does not interfere with hitting my Protein and Water goals then I can drink it whenever I want.

I was advised not to have coffee for the first two weeks, after that I've been having some almost every day

starbucks has some great low cal drinks. Their refreshers are sweet and refreshing and have green coffee which gives you that boost. The largest size (32oz) is something like 150 calories

I never went off coffee....I am an admitted addict :) I put 4oz of a vanilla Premier Protein RTD shake in a Tervis with a cup of coffee at least 4 times a day. So, I'm getting 60 grams of Protein while indulging my coffee addiction. SOOOOOO very yummy. I call it my Protein Latte. :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
