What antibacterial soap did you/will you use the night before?

My hospital said Dial was good - not all Dial soaps have lotion. Look for the blue bottle

I had to shower normally, 2 hrs later shower with the hibiclens soap and not use any Shampoo, deodorant or anything after the second shower then I had to shower with the soap again the next morning. Luckily my surgeon gave me the soap.

My SO and sister have both had surgeries in the last few months and both had to use hibiclens. As my SO said - every where but his junk! I've had multiple surgeries over the last several years and never had to use anything special.

Not a preop recommendation out here in CA that I'm aware of.

Lol CA is a big state with lots of surgeons and lots of hospitals. My surgeon and hospital required it.

I work in surgery I do many different types of cases and if they are pre-scheduled surgeries my surgeons tell there patients to clean there whole body with hibiclens including there private areas because more than likely the patient will be getting a catheter put in. The nurses do clean your private area with a hibiclens type soap before inserting it, so basically it's just an extra precaution to help prevent any infections

It just doesn't make any sense. OK, you bathe with Hibiclens. Then you get dressed to go to the hospital. Then you get dressed in a hospital gown once you get there. All the bacteria you may have washed off is now redeposited on your body.

You gargle with Listerine. And report to the hospital two hours or more before your procedure. During that time you breathe, talk, produce saliva - and replenish the bacteria that normally live in your mouth.

I used Hibiclens it was "given" to me during my pre-op testing at the hospital.....well I use the word "given" very loosely!.....I'm sure there is a several thousand dollar charge on my hospital bill somewhere for it...LOL

Not all the bacteria has time to regrow. You go in with a lot less than you would have if you didn't follow the pre-op instructions.

Just have faith that your surgeon has a reason to ask you to do something: to give you the best chance of a healthy, complication free recovery.

I agree somewhat.....I've had several surgeries in the past and this was never a requirement until now......However, I just saw it as a precautionary process....Maybe it doesn't help.....but then again maybe it does, so why not! So I did as directed and bathed with the magic potion the night before and the again the morning of....and I've healed perfectly!....is it because of my bathing with this soap?....who knows! :)

You mistake my meaning. I've been a licensed health care professional for more than thirty years. I DID trust my surgeon, and was given NO requirement to do any of this - no infections or anything dire occurred. There is a lot to be said about overuse of antibacterials, similar to overuse of antibiotics.

No, your reason for healing perfectly has nothing to do with your preop shower. There is nothing magic in any soap. If there were, there would be no postop infections, and everyone would need to use whatever the magic soap was.

It's a longstanding truth in the business that postop wound infections start in the OR.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
