WLS and Nexplanon (or any other BC)

Recommended Posts

I had Nexplanon in place for 7 months prior to my surgery, and I was glad my menstruation had been very few and light, sometimes 2 months late yay! It's about 8 weeks post-op, and I've already had 3 cycles where each lasted more than a week. I originally got the Nexplanon because I hated getting my period (and too bad the Mirena IUD couldn't fit inside my uterus). Anyone on hormonal birth control, did your period ever disappear again? bmi.png

I have had the Mirena for about 5 years, and up until the point of surgery, I didn't have my cycle. Once I started losing the weight, I had my cycle like clockwork. Granted it only lasts two days and isn't super heavy, I still get one.

I've had the Nexplanon since Feb 2016 and the first year was pretty good. Never had any cycles but this year I noticed I get a cycle every other month, once I have surgery next month I know it will change too. I'm thinking of getting it re-done later this year.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
