Ok so here are a few questions i've had and want to know if everyone else is having them too. Just a little insite on me, i'm 12 days into my liquid diet surgery is Tues. @9:30am!

How do you overcome wanting to eat other things while on the liquid diet?

I have been taking a bite chewing the item and spitting it out. Is this something I should avoid? I don't have the need to swallow the food it's just I want to taste it.

Do you cook for others still?

I cooked for my husband, I felt like he has been so caring and was grateful however I wanted to stab him when he didn't wash his dish & I didn't even get a bite!

Have you come across anyone that acted jealous and tried to talk you out of it?

My step childrens mother literally said I can't believe that you are doing this you are beautiful and I don't want to be bigger than you!

I did not have to do a pre op diet, other than the night before, but I can imagine it is hard. if it helps you to chew and spit, so be it. better that than you cave and eat something.

Take heart - the liquid diet part is the hardest thing. I had a liquid diet after surgery.

I had cooked a lot of things before surgery and that way I only had to reheat meals for the family. or have one of them reheat. once I was able to eat soft foods it did not bother me to cook for them.

the only people who tried to talk me out of it were people who were genuinely concerned something could happen to me. I was more afraid of the obesity than the surgery, so I kindly thanked them for their concern and went ahead with my plans.

I do not have to do a liquid diet until tomorrow morning. But today I am doing a liquid diet. June 14th is my surgery day and for some reason I am at ease. I want to be under my weight I was last Wednesday, before Tuesday morning. Anyways, whatever you have to do just to get the taste of food and then spit out is good. You can do this sleeve buddy!!

I did a full 2 week liquid diet. The hardest thing I have ever done. We had family over during that time and, yes, i made the whole thing. I did not cheat, not once. Try to keep the big picture in mind. Sure this is uncomfortable but it is also life-changing.

I would watch (and still do on occasion) the All Recipe channel and the food Network. At least I could look at my obsession, even though I could not act on it. Chew and spit if you must, but you will make it. Good luck and best wishes.

Please be careful getting into the habit of chewing and spitting out food. That is a real eating disorder and it's easy to slip into that mode. You will also end up craving more. Find distractions - non food related. Have something savory - broth, V8 (if on your plan)! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
