I've got that itch... the itch every wallet hates

Recommended Posts

Now that I feel a difference and am over 50% to my goal I have started to want to buy clothes...

ALL the clothes...

Before I decided to get surgery I had a pretty bad habit of buying and collecting cute clothes (only a portion of which actually fit me)

and now even some of those clothes that didn't fit me before are starting to be looser on me

When I decided to get surgery, I stopped buying clothes all together. And I did good! Until now...

Luckily everything I've bought so far has been a bargain, and I'll just have to try hard to not buy anything else. (NONE of it is plus size :D)

I think that the shopping addiction is something that is common for people who have struggled with their weight, I was never happy with how my body looked so I tried to dress it in things that made me feel beautiful.

and I need to learn to keep it check.

I still have aways to go until my goal weight, and it'll take a while to get there as my weight loss has slowed down some.

When did you guys start buying clothes? How did you judge what size you are/ would be?

Is anyone else's experience similar to mine?

Be sure to have budget an stay within. It could be easy to switch from extra baggage on the body to extra baggage on a credit card because shopping can be fun....and much more so if able to shop in regular sizes. :'(

Oh yea I'll have to work out an allowance for shopping... I just don't even know if I should be shopping yet.

I have no idea what my final weight/size would be and don't need to spend money on things I won't be able to wear later anyways.

I don't have a credit card either! I think it would be dangerous... don't need to accumulate loans.

I buy all the clothes.

High end consignment, Forever 21 and American Eagle, Anthroplogie, Urban Outfitters, H&M... All the clothes, all the places.

:D

When did you start???

I see from your bio you're at your goal, congrats!!

I have no idea how to judge what my body will look at goal and what sizes I would be comfortable wearing.

I shopped consignment on my way down. It was cheaper and I didn't feel bad when I only wore things 3-4 times before it no longer fit.

Enjoy the journey, not just the destination. Looking good at all sizes encouraged to to stay on track.

Yes I think that's the route I'll take...

I can always sell my clothes for some money back or donate them for good karma.

Excited! (my wallet is not... it was enjoying the break these last few months)

I recently hit my 50% too and have exactly the same problem and no monnnnniiieesss. I've been getting clothing bundles on ebay to get me through it, but I need to stop buying stuff, my size changes too much too frequently.

I'm going to be able to shop in my own closet for quite a while. I have everything from 12-18, M-XXL. Can't wait to wear some of my smaller stuff!!

I'm like you! Actually once I realized I was going through with this I cleaned out my closet and sorted out the stuff I wanted to keep from the smaller sizes. Bagged em up by size (I have size 6 - 18!) and hope I remember to look in the bags on the way down.

I have always been a big shopper and I buy beautiful expensive clothes. I know it's going to get worse when I lose because I will be so excited to try out all the non-plus size clothes. I'll be running all up and down Madison Avenue.

I've had 2 closet purges so far (5 months out). I buy a nice new outfit if I have something coming up. Most of the time I'm in shorts with a draw string and a t shirt. My biggest expense I fear is going to be in shoes! I've already gone down a size. Oh and also I lost an inch in height!! What the crap!!?? Ugh I went to a consignment shop over the weekend and got some pants and a few dresses. Some I can wear now and the rest in a couple weeks I'm sure.

A lot of people on here post that they went down a shoe size! I hope that happens to me. I went from a size 6 to a 7 and have some gorgeous shoes that I haven't been able to wear. Also the bigger I get the more difficulty I have wearing high heels.

I am sticking with inexpensive Walmart clothing until I reach my goal. I told my husband that when I reach goal I am going to spend a ton of money! He didn't seem to mind. I have a good one.

Omg, I could have written this post. Especially when you said most women who are plus size have a shopping addiction. How true is that and I've always felt that way. I haven't had my surgery yet (2 weeks!!), but what I've started doing is selling my cute plus size clothes and using that money to buy brand new clothes when my weight has leveled off. So far I've made $400 and I barely put a dent in my closet! Lol but that's an idea for you if your like me with all those cute plus size clothes laying around

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
