How bad are the scars from laparoscopic sleeve?

Recommended Posts

the scars themselves are nothing. I have 3 marks which are about 1/4 of an inch and two that are about 1 inch. I am only 4 months out this week, so they haven't begun to fade yet, but I wouldn't even let that worry you. I have worse scars from skinning my knee as a child.

I'm only 6 weeks post op and mine are still healing; however, I had laparoscopic surgery 4 years ago to have my gallbladder removed, and I can't even find the scars. I expect this to be the same way eventually. The cuts I received are slight.

Wondering how the scars look from laparoscopic surgery. Especially those that started with a lower bmi.

I started from a higher BMI, but my scars are very small. At a year out, most of the smaller scars are almost completely faded.

I am also pre-op, but I also had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically, and I can hardly see them anymore. I think it depends on your skin type, but generally I think they are not very noticeable.

Nearly two years post-op (sleeved) I can barely find the two largest scars. I can't find any of the smaller ones now.

FYI, I'm 70 years old, very light-skinned Caucasian, started with BMI just under 40.

I am four months out, and my scars have faded a little bit. I have four - two are about 1/2 an inch, and two are about 1 inch. They blend right in with the stretch marks I have from gaining weight over the years anyway...

The stretch marks from gaining weight are far more visible than incisions. While I can't change the past, it's a constant reminder of the consequences of unhealthy eating habits.

I am 3 years post-op and have no visible scars. I tend to scar pretty easily and also have gotten some mild keloiding of some scars in the past so this is not because I have some miraculous anti-scar properties in my skin. My dermatologist can find the largest of them but only if she uses her special backlit magnifying glass and looks carefully. The other incisions have completely vanished.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
