June 17th Sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm getting my sleeve surgery June 17th in Atlanta, GA. My pre operation appointment is tomorrow. I've been lurking for a month for so, so I thought I would go ahead and join and introduce myself.

I am doing well also..Its funny after surgery I was like did I really just have surgery??!! I asked to walk once I got to my room after being in recovery...I didn't hv a lot of gas but my throat was sore but that went away the same day. My only issue was the acid reflux. I,had it bad on Sunday but then it got better and it comes and goes but that's about it. How much Protein are you intakng? I am trying my best to enough protein but I guess that will get better day by day...how long where u in hospital and how where you after surgery?

I had the sore throat after surgery as well. The nurse had to stop me from drinking too fast. Everything else felt like not much had happened. I didn't have any reflux or anything. I'm supposed to get over 90 grams of Protein a day in the first week, so I drink 3 Bariatric Advantage shakes a day. That has roughly 90 grams. I tried the nectar shakes on the first day and couldn't choke enough of them down. I was discharged about a half hour after they woke me up from surgery, so I was only there for a few hours total. I barely had any discomfort or anything, since I stayed on top of the pain meds. Overall the only struggle is making myself drink these shakes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
