high bloodpressure and weight loss

Recommended Posts

I have a question for anyone that has had a weight loss and has had high bloodpressure that required medication to control it.....has your pressure went down? enough to get off your medicine?..if so how much did you lose till that happened?..did you have any signs that it was getting too low on the medication?..I did have mine check at 50pds with no difference by now with 100 pds off have not had things checked out..was hoping to get off the medication...and wonder if anyone has been able to get off their Medication..

thanks for your replies...

Jenny

Jenny, it's true that some people do go off their BP meds after losing weight, but only those people whose high pressure was caused by their excess weight. In my case, I'd always assumed my borderline-high pressure was caused by excess weight, but after losing 100 lbs it turns out that it wasn't. Why didn't I ever think that before? My (slender) mother was on meds for her bp most of her adult life. Just another preconceived notion down the tubes.

Don't make any assumptions about the way things hang together. After losing weight you ARE healthier, more active, better off overall, but if that doesn't mean you can get off your BP meds it's NOT the end of the world. It just means that your condition is caused by something else.

Hello Jenny,

BP differs from person to person. Your body has to adjust. Your BP went up gradually, and now it'll go back down. gradually....; Just have it checked often. What frequently happens is that your pressure starts getting LOW while on BP meds, so your MD will have to adjust it.

I know someone who went off BP meds entirely, but thast doesn't happen with everyone.

Be patient, and check the BP often.

Good Luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
