What made you get a tat?

Recommended Posts

At 35, I got drunk with a tattoo artist friend and he decided we all needed a tattoo at my kitchen table. And that's where I got it....at my kitchen table.

It's a terrible tattoo of a sunflower on my ankle that I actually want to remove. I don't even want it covered. I have no interest in getting another. Never really understood the appeal of them, personally, but I DO appreciate nice art on other people.

My first tattoo I got 5 days after turning 18. It is a rose on my ankle. I don't have a picture of it.

I waited 30 years for my second tattoo - I got this after my 19 year old son died. It is the rose with feathers and his name.

The third tattoo is I got because my sister wanted sister tattoos.

I got my first when I was 18 and I wanted it a while. I didn't necessarily have to wait til I was 18 cause my mom was ok with it, but that's how timing worked.

I wanted something to represent my views on life and how others should be treated. Its on my leg above my knee and it says:

"Human Like You"

We are all the same in terms of skin, flesh, and blood. I think maybe people forget to be decent enough to treat one another with respect as a human being.

Since then I got an oragami bird that's a banksy piece right below my collar bone. That one was on a whim, but I like it, I don't think I'll ever cover it or anything.

I have 11 total, and definitely plan on getting more.

A cat between my shoulder blades looking back, always keeping an eye out on those behind me.

Sailor Jerry styled swallows on my low back, lore said they would carry your soul to heaven.

A duck with a halo on the right inner forearm I got right after my dad was stabbed, to remind me life is precious.

7 stars on my right ankle, a play on Revelation 1:19

A flaming green pixelated fist with "Mrs. Punch" beneath it in script on my left inner forearm. Private joke between my husband and I, and now the name of my soap line.

Goldfinches and roses on my left outer bicep in memory of my grandmother after she passed.

Sugar skull styled cat on left inner bicep, an homage to all of The cats I have (and will have) in my life.

A family portrait as imagined by my brother, on my right outer bicep It is a thunderstorm turning in to a rainbow, symbolizing the strife we experienced to the beauty of life we recognize now. This was his guest artist spot on Ink Master, and he actually got to do some of it

A koi on my right inner bicep to symbolize the long and hard fight upstream I've traveled to get where I am now.

An elephant blasting a heart shaped hole through a wall on my left calf, love can conquer all

A tree with 7 magpies and "I'll fly with you" on my right calf. I love magpies, and our family tree flourishing is predicated on sticking together.

Definitely going to be getting more, I want to finish half sleeves on both arms and perhaps get a few more leg tattoos as well. I love them, they tell stories and capture moments in my life, and I also think they look rad ;)post-107035-14657470607972_thumb.jpg

I have a small tattoo on my right ankle that is an Irish clover with the one of the colors of the Irish flag (orange, green, and white) in each leaf, and my first initial next to it. Got it when I was 25 for a very specific reason and years later (21 to be exact) my reasoning has proven true. I was very shy growing up, came out of my shell more by high school and college, but remained still quite reserved. I got my tattoo because I knew at some point in my life I would have people that would say, "YOU have a tattoo??!" And also because I knew I'd live a life more likely than not, in which I might need to remind myself every once in a while that I used to be fun, unencumbered, and a bit rebellious. Am having my WLS this Friday the 17th (yay!!), and am thinking afterward of having my wedding ring tattoed on my ring finger, because I'm hopeful it will slide around on my finger like crazy once I'm on the losers' bench!!

I have a frog above my ankle and a pink skull on my right foot. My brother have me both of those, he passed away in 2012. last Wednesday 6/8/16 I got a new tattoo. One to honor him. A pic of a heart with wings he had drawn that I found after his death. It took me this long to get it because I wanted to find someone that would do it justice and I finally did. I already want another one.post-269865-14657575100276_thumb.jpg

I have 7 tattoos in total, but the one that means the most to me is the one I got in remembrance of my brother.

He was in the military and was killed in Afghanistan 10 years ago. He had a tattoo on his forearm that said "overcome"....he had to overcome a lot of fears to do all the things he did while in the military.

After he died, I got overcome tattooed on my left calf surrounded by maple leafs....I'm from Canada. post-286644-14657589564621_thumb.jpg

I was tatted for the first time to Celebrate my 60th b'day. It is an "flowering" plant with two pink blossoms to represent my two daughters , one pink bud for my granddaughter and three blue buds for my grandsons.

On the passing of my international champion standard poodle, "Bob" I got my second. It is a lotus blossom with his face coming out of the middle of it.

Both tats are on my inner ankles.( ouch! :) ) Why on the inner ankles? So I can enjoy looking at them. They are for ME first.

I enjoy them both

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
