Day 4 liquid diet

Recommended Posts

So today is day 4 of my liquid diet and I'm away in Ocean City Maryland for a lacrosse tournament for my son. It is very very difficult to be here because eating socially and having a beer or a drink socially was a huge part of my life. I have been perfect for 4 days and will continue to be strong, but it has me thinking about the way it will be after. It is going to be a huge change to have to sit for dinner and eat such a small amount. I know it's what's best for me because of the diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, thickened heart, sleep apnea...

I've tried so many times on my own and took it off but gained it back. My bmi is just under 40 and I started at 280 and my goal will prob be around 210 I'm 5'10". I know it's not a huge amount of weight to lose for this surgery but my health issue are a big part. In the third day of liquid diet I'm already off my diabetes meds. I wish I could fast forward a few months so I could get to the point where I could enjoy a nice slice of chicken! Lol. How long after surgery will that be?

Depends on your team's dietary guidelines but I know how you feel lol. For me it was full liquids for the first 3 weeks, then on to puree stage... which doesn't seem much different from liquid when you really want to chew something. Purees week 4-6, and then onto soft foods if you've been tolerating purees, for the 7th week.. though I started soft foods very limited in week 6 and had no issues. I'm still not ready for a nice slice of chicken, but I can do really moist crockpot pulled chicken..and after all those weeks of liquid that sure was good! Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
