japeters 44 Posted June 11, 2016 I'm curious to know if anyone else is itchy? I am 3 1/2 months post op and have been so unbelievably itchy (arms, legs and torso). I will admit I've had this issue in the past when losing weight and my dermatologist has me taking Vitamin E, but lately the itching is so bad I've bruised myself and have small cuts in some areas. I do play to call my Bariatric Support Team on Monday but thought I'd check in here to see if anyone else has experienced this. I wonder if my skin is just dry and maybe I need more oil/fat in my diet??? Thoughts are appreciated!
Valentina 2,642 Posted June 11, 2016 Good morning, Sometimes pain killers can cause itchiness like you describe. Another thought: If your diet doesn't include enough fat you're skin could be dried out. That's usually what happens to me and I find myself scratching in places that I have long forgotten that I had. I'm sure your "team" will have the answer for you when you call on Mon.. However, if you are breaking your skin open, that could lead to a nasty infection, so why not call today and talk to the doctor on call? Couldn't hurt---might help. Please post and let us know how you make out. Prayers going up.
cindyw41 761 Posted June 11, 2016 Have you tried taking Benadryl? I'd also get some type of sensitive skin moisturizing cream. Maybe this will help you till you can talk to your team. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
KristenLe 5,979 Posted June 11, 2016 (edited) Look into Ketosis rash. Also try healthy fats - avocado, olives Edited June 11, 2016 by KristenLe
duckydoom 128 Posted June 11, 2016 I came to suggest the same as @@KristenLe - Keto rash. It can be a pain! Add more healthy fats - you can mix olive oil into your cottage cheese for a boost, or I do avocado drizzled with olive oil.

It itches like crazy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Idj49 10 Posted June 11, 2016 I am almost 3 weeks post op and the itching on my stomach has been unbearable. I finally bought some benadryl yesterday and it helped tremendously. Apparently our bodies produce histamine to aid with healing.

KristenLe 5,979 Posted June 12, 2016 As long as your incisions are healed - try putting some coconut oil on your skin. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App
Read2016 658 Posted June 12, 2016 This from Sephora helps me when my skin gets super dry in Winter, it has something in it to sooth the little cuts that can happen from dry skin... It's about $30 but gives the skin relief. "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" Einstein
