Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA)

Recommended Posts

Since I'm having trouble taking my Protein someone mentioned BCAA supplements to me and said they help protect the muscles from breaking down and provides the body with enough amino acids during dieting or weight loss that otherwise can not be obtained enough from food.. Does anyone know anything about this?

No, I have never heard of this. My question is if you are having trouble with Protein supplements how would this kind of supplement be any different. It sounds like a Protein supplement.

The best thing to do is talk to your surgeon and/or NUT about your difficulties.

It seems that you would have to take an awful lot of them to get enough Protein.

What kind of problem are you having getting in Protein?

I still think the best thing to do is discuss this with your surgeon and/or NUT.

From what I was told and from what I read (it is also sold at GNC) you only need to take 2-4 capsules per day.

I had something that I can compare to dumping syndrome every time I had a Protein shake. Apparently many of who had MGB have an issue with Protein shakes either dumping or something else. My doctor doesn't seem to be worried or even bothered about protein intake and just says to eat my protein before anything else when I have my meals. He asked me to stop all Protein Shakes and concentrate on protein from meat and eggs. So obviously if I ask him about BCAA he wouldn't be bothered. My hair is starting to fall and it's worrying me . I don't have a problem with taking my Vitamins at all and try my best to get my protein from food but it's not easy to get in 60-70 grams of protein per day. I'm 6 weeks out of a MGB. I try to make my own protein shakes at home btw but I still am unable to reach 60-70 grams of protein per day.. And I'm looking for an easier way

BCAA also comes in powder form, and I would add to post workout shakes.< /p>

It has all amino acids for complete Protein, and it helps post work out protein to be used by the body to rebuild muscles.

when I was weight lifting or hard interval training, I did notice improved recovery.

What about the basics? I think it is critical that right now you need to make sure you are getting enough Protein and Fluid. What is your Protein target? Are you able to reach that target every day? Are you able to get in at least 64 oz of Fluid? Are you taking all of your Vitamins and supplements as directed? -- From everything I know this should be your primary focus.

I did find this: http://www.m.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-1005/branched-chain+amino+acids

Basics are as follow:-

- fluids. I take around 1.5 liters per day. Which is around 50 oz. and that's not bad according to my NUT for someone recently out of a surgery (had my MGB April 30th)

- Vitamins, I'm taking all with no problem. I take the full Bariatric Multi Vitamins plus Calcium citrate. No Iron yet because I had 7 units of blood right after surgery. So will need to check my serum ferritin 3 months after the date of my surgery.

- protein. Target is 60 grams. Currently averaging 30-40 grams. So I'm trying to look for a solution.

I'm only 7 kg's away from my target weight and I don't know how to slow things down.

that administration of BCAAs, particularly leucine, has an anabolic effect on Protein metabolism either by increasing the rate of protein synthesis, decreasing the rate of protein degradation, or both.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
