Wow you are all great! I am excited to start this new part of my life. I would love to be a stress cleaner...lol

I am looking forward to so many new adventures and changes! I am a little anxious about the unknown but trying to prepare myself as much as possible. I love this board. THANK YOU!

I know what you mean, OP. One of the hardest parts of deciding to do this surgery was realizing that I was going to have to change how we have fun... because "having fun" means hanging out at the local taproom, drinking beer with all our townie friends, a couple of nights a week. Sometimes it's just a pint of microbrew, sometimes it's a lot more, but we always have an amazingly fun time. I KNOW this has to change. Just like going out for 2-for-1 Burger Night, 50cent chicken wings, or to the Japanese hibachi restaurant will also have to change. But here's the thing: After 6 or so months, these activities will CHANGE but won't necessarily be GONE from your life. As my 22 year old daughter pointed out, I'll still be able to eat, and maybe even drink. It just means that I'll bring a storage container for half my burger, skip the roll (which I already do), and sub a salad or green for the fries. I can order the kid's portions and take some home, or an adult portion and take MORE home. Five wings are cheaper and less caloric than the 15 wings I usually consume. We'll still go out, still have fun. A friend who helped motivate me towards this surgery even still drinks beer. I'm not saying that's necessarily wise, but she'll have one or two 5oz. tasters in an evening instead of 3 or 4 pints of beer. Life will STILL be fun, if this is your idea of fun. You just have to take control of the situation and make it work for you. I, personally, am looking forward to having the other kind of "fun" with my husband again. Through no fault of his, we haven't been very "fun" because I am not at all comfortable with my size or having "fun" at this size. He is a dear sweet man, and I miss having fun with him. We both deserve to have fun again, even at our advanced ages. SO? We'll see... :)

Oh my God i can soooooooooooo relate to this right here. We were on vacation recently and my husband and i decided to have "fun" and i caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror on the closet and i looked like a beached beluga whale writhing on the sand. lord it was AWFUL! anyway, that image of myself is what flipped the switch in me that i'm definitely going to do this! it was truly horrifying and strangely comical at the same time.

Hi fancy pants I have just sprayed my I pad with coffee laughing at your post . I think a few of us ladies can identify with you there, you are a good sport for writing that post!

I'm on holiday with my best friend who has known me over 30 years. She remarked last night that I am still as daft as ever I was I just don't need to drink alcohol or eat so much to be amusing! The thing that gets her is that I want to walk more or get up early to run. She has always been slim so she can't really understand how I feel now after my weight loss surgery but she is happy for me.

All the best from me in sunny Cyprus

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
