Robe or Jammie's?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so this may seem like a silly question but should I bring comfy pj's or a robe to the hospital? Which is most practical?

No such thing as a silly question :)

Robe. You're going to be in a hospital gown most of the time anyway since they'll want to check your incisions, etc. It also makes it easier for staff should they need quick access for any reason.

Where are you having your surgery? I'm just north of you :)

Good luck!

I agree a robe would be best. They will most likely keep you in a gown. Good luck!

Neither, just stick with the hospital gowns. When you leave your room to go walking, just put on another hospital gown facing backwards so you don't flash anyone. Hospital gowns are designed to deal with drains, catheters, and IV lines and poles, any or all of which you may have -- your robe or PJ's are not. Also, do you want to get oozing blood, bodily fluids, or IV fluids on your own clothes, or on the hospital's? I say let the hospital deal with that load of laundry! :D

I would say neither. Just use the gown they give you. They will be checking your incisions and other things so it will be easier. But do bring some soft comfy clothes to go home in

But slippers, right? Or just rock the awesome socks they give you? ;)

I took both and it wasn't til the day I went home that I could even get up to get changed into them because of an oxygen issue. They were great for the ride home though.

I brought pajama bottoms and wore those under my gown after surgery to make me more comfortable while walking.

I took a new gown and my robe from home. I wanted the smell of "home", not "hospital" next to my skin. I also took my own soap and toiletries . I wanted to smell like "me", not a "hospital patient".

I also took my comfy slippers--easy on/off, cell charger, and my rosary (can't hurt, right?)

Oh, and a pix of my family.

Prayers going up for a joyful journey. :)

I didn't use either.

I couldn't use a robe because they kept an iv in until discharge. However, I was VERY happy to have some jammy shorts to put on under my hospital gown. I felt more "secure" walking. I was glad to have shorts vs pants because I was really hot and they kept those weird leg circulation things on when I was in bed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
