2 weeks after gastric sleeve surgery and just not hungry

Recommended Posts

It took me a long time after my surgery to feel hungry and want to eat again. I just concentrated on meeting my Fluid and Protein goals and looked at food as fuel.

Sounds like you are doing good getting your fluids and protein in. Maybe by next week you will feel ready for some mushy foods. I had to experiment with a lot of different foods, spices, and textures until I found what kind of food worked for me.

If it makes you feel any better the hunger does return for most of us. At least to the degree that you won't mind eating!!

Congrats on your surgery

I had surgery 2 weeks ago today. The doctor said I can start mushy pureed foods next wednesday. Problem is I'm not hungry at all. I've been drinking tons of Water and Isopure. But have been lax on anything else. Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas?

This is very normal.

The best thing I can suggest is to just set a schedule for your fluids and Protein to make sure you get everything on. Don't rely on "feeling hungry" to eat and don't wait on hunger to remind you to eat. Set an alarm if you need to.

The most important thing for you for both healing and weight loss is to make sure you reach your Protein target every day and to get at least 64 oz of Fluid.

It gets easier.

Thank you. I'm definitely getting the protein.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
