Anyone over the age of 40 NOT have loose skin?

Recommended Posts

Just curious if it's a GIVEN due to age, or if there's a chance skin can remain intact. Now I know there are TONS of factors (how much weight is lost, how big to start, how fast...) I'm just curious if anyone (women in particular) has not had a big loose skin issue.

I asked my doc about loose skin at my appointment yesterday. His advice to deal with loose skin was to eat plenty of Protein and to do weight training exercises (once cleared after surgery).

I have a BMI around 40 and he thought that if I ate like I was supposed to and did the weight training that I should have a good result.

Everyone I have asked about the loose skin has said that it is better to have loose skin than to be heavy!

I am over 40, lost over 100 lbs, and was overweight for 30 years. While I do have loose skin, the only place anyone can see it is on my upper arms if I wear something sleeveless or cap sleeved. The rest of my loose skin is completely hidden with clothing.

Compared to many, mine is minimal; just a little above my belly button, some sagging on inner thigh and where thigh and butt meet as well as my worst spot which is my lower belly or pannis. All that said, even with my excess skin I wear a size 4.

For what it is worth, I am 3+ years out, weight train 3 times a week, drink 60-70 oz of fluids a day, get at least 70 grams of Protein a day and lost my weight slowly and steadily (never had massive losses or had a stall).

I'm over 40, 45 to be exact... Similiar stats to all of you 5'4 236... This is the most obese I've been, sort of new for me to be 200 plus... The weight keeps rapidly piling on... My surgeon said you will get loose skin wear you mostly carry your weight... In my case it's the belly.. One fear of having the surgery was how would I pay for plastics but since I figured that one out I'm good... Yes weight training is a game changer, im pre op but headed to the gym today to get a trainer

I am over 40 and in the process of losing. I do have loose skin but nothing that keeps me from doing anything.

Some loose skin is to be expected.

Keep in mind that you will stall periodically throughout the process of losing weight. Many people get upset when they stall, treating it as something that interrupts the process. Stalls are when our bodies adjust to the weight loss and part of that adjustment includes tightening the skin. It is my understanding that you will continue to see changes after you start maintenance, too. That is why most plastic surgeon's may want you to be at a stable weight for a period of time before surgery.

@ i'm with you. I took a job 8 years ago that is VERY sedentary (literally sitting for 12.5 hours a day with a half hour for lunch and 2 15 min breaks)...i was SO afraid i was going to get fat...sure enough. i did. i had a very nice athletic body before this job, but as i got older and menopause starting to kick in...i just can't take it off on my own. i would love to wear a 2 piece bathing suit again...i'm hoping my skin snaps back pretty well.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
