I just got out of the hospital after a two week ordeal with blood clots in my leg. My leg swelled up three times its size. After getting to the right facility and right doctor, I had five surgeries over a two week period. It was pretty scary to say the lease, and the pain was excruciating. After putting on some 20 lbs of Fluid, I finally got relief and the swelling has gone down. Weighed this morning and am down a pound. Yay!

I was wondering if anyone else has had any clot issues since getting sleeved?

I was two weeks post sleeve surgery on Tuesday. I woke up in excruciating pain in my abdomen...I was terrified it was a leak. I ended up in the ER. I also had a hiatal hernia repair as well. They thought it was pain from that healing. After a ultrasound of my abdomen they found I had a portal vein clot. They game me a CT scan and found a clot in my intestine and two in my lungs. I was admitted to the hospital and put on blood thinners. They checked my legs for clots but I had none. I feel better now and am home. Why did you have surgery? Surgery was never brought up for me?

YIKES! blood clots can happen any time and more often after surgery but it is scary no matter when. I am thankful that you were able to get the treatment you needed. Did they have any clues at all about what might have gone on to cause you to develop them?

My surgery is on this Tuesday coming up - June 14th @ 11am :D *takes a deep breath* I think its just the closer it gets... I've been waiting for surgery for almost a year, and now I'm getting a lil nervous :)

Will you have blood thinners after surgery? I only had them during my hospital stay. If you have them longer you should be okay.

I don't know to be honest... that reminds me! I have to call my Doctor - CVS says my pain meds are on back order...

My clots were caused by something called Thurmer Syndrome. They do not think it was related to my sleeve. I had 5 procedures over two weeks. First they ran a cath up my leg and used dissolving solution to try to disolve some of the clots. Then they suctioned some of the bigger ones out. I still have some in my lower leg that they could not reach. The next procedure was two days later and it was when they put filters in at the top of each thigh to prevent clots from going to my lungs or brain. The last two procedures was to put a stent in to hold the vein open and to remove the filters they put in because they had moved and they didn't want them to go up to my brain. Currently I am taking and will continue to take cumadin for at least 3-6 months.

Oh wow! That is crazy! I guess since mine were already in my lungs they weren't worried about them moving. I felt bad but not too bad. They put me on Elequis so I wouldn't have to have so much monitoring with blood work. I don't know if the sleeve caused this or if I have underlying issues. I have to see a hemotologist for future testing.

I am 5 days postop and every once in a while since surgery my left leg gets a feeling like hot blood flow down it from the knee down. No swelling just something funky since surgery. I walk a ton and it's only my left leg. Thoughts?

I walked a ton after surgery...a couple days even 10,000 steps. I never had anything in my legs so I had no sign of clots there. You could always call the surgeons office and check with them. I am sure there is someone on call. Since I had clots in my lungs they had already moved from the spot they started in. They told me we may never know where they actually came from. Clots are funny because they didn't give me a fever. Although looking back on things I had pain in my right chest and thought it was weird but blew it off. The day before I went into the ER just walking up the stairs at my house made me break out in a sweat. I thought I was just weak...it was actually the lung clots. I also had major pain under my sternum...that was the clot in my portal vain keeping blood from going to my liver. So, I would think you would have pain somewhere...but maybe my clots were unusual?

I have the pain in my left shoulder and arm but surgeon told me it was gas. That hurts to breathe there. She said gas in the shoulder was normal and would go away in a week or so.

@@christiR This forum is a great place to get general information and suppot from fellow sleevers, but it is NOT where you should turn for specific medical advice! Blood clots are potentially life-threatening post-surgical complications. I had a DVT that turned into a pulmonary embolism following knee surgery some years ago. The symptoms of a DVT ("blood clot") can be vague. No, @@Lindsey Skinner Abbott, there is not necessarily any pain associated with either the DVT or a PVT (and clot in a portal) or even once the clot has broken off and become an embolism.

If you have ANY concern that you might have a blood clot, PLEASE contact your surgical team immediately. You will not be bothering them, they want you to have a complication-free recover as much as you do!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
