Does anyone have problems drinking soda? Is that a big no, no? I tried some once and it did not agree with me.

Let me know! Really curious!

I can drink anything I want. Beer, pop, lemonade etc. Fortunately I don't often drink beer and sugared pop turns my stomach.

before banding, i was addicted to coca cola! and had at least 3 litres a day,

i can drink anything i like now, but i dont drink anything fizzy ( except beer!!)

one reason been...it just tastes to sweet now, second, its full of sugar, and 3rd, bloats up your stomach, why have it full of air when you could have healthy food in there!

I'm pretty sure that bandsters aren't supposed to drink carbonated beverages- can make the band eat into your stomach...or I guess it's the other way around- your stomach eat into your band. Yeah, thats it. I don't know if it's a totally forbidden thing or if it's ok once and awhile. So, a lot of help I am. :-)

Per my doc (one of the most experienced band docs in the US) it is ok to drink a small amount of diet carbonated beverage every now and then. Key words: small amount, every now and then.

I was told that it doesn't matter if you drink diet or regular soda the point is the carbination expands your stomach before and after the lap band surgery. I was told no carbinated beverages at all. and this was very difficult for me I loved my diet rite soda and crave it more than anything else.

i was told avoid soda first 2 weeks. after that its ok. i have been able to drink soda once in a while pre 2nd fill. had 2nd fill thursday and tried 1 sip of soda i could feel it bubble in the back of throat let the soda get partially flat and it still did it so...bye bye soda because i am still not at the level of restriction i need and if i am having problems now i am sure it would only be worse with more restriction.

did you know if you have a crusty car battery and pour soda on it it will clean off the crust...and if your tiolet is nasty pour in a 20 oz and let it sit over night then flush and i guess its clean...

things i have heard but never tried!

Well Leo, I don't know if it's true or not BUT I can tell you from experience, it will make a dull penny look like new. I do know this from fact. I left a soda cup (you know the kind that you get from McDonald's) in my cup holder. You know how you have loose change in the car and it just sits there? Well it just happened that there was some loose pennies that were in the bottom of the cup holder. When I went to empty the cup I noticed that there was a little leak in the bottom of the cup and the sodawas kind of sitting there with the pennies. The pennies looked BRAND NEW. I couldn't believe it. THink it would have deterred me from drinking soday? Of course not!! Actually drank more of it!! :o:P :P :)

I've watched my dad pour coke onto a crusted battery. It fizzles and gets rid of the crude...:P

I tried to take a sip of soda twice and i was so uncomfortable. It felt like I had the biggest burb that wouldn't come out.

I'll stick to Water and coffee and my occasional wine and margaritas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
