I had my group class with the NUT today to go over what I can and can't eat for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery - and sugar free Jello is a hard NO!

I'm so bummed - I'd seen it listed on so many plans under the Full liquid section. I guess that's why mine is called "Modified Full Liquids".

I can't imagine why - it was given to me the night of surgery in the hospital.

are you allowed sugar free popsicles?

@KristenLe @Christinamo7 They said because Jello fills you up too much which prevents you from getting enough liquid and Protein in.

And yes, I can have the popsicles.

Did they give you any particular reason why?

Because it can make you feel too full and prevent you from getting your fluids and Protein.

It's a slider food. Makes your pouch feel full and then you may not be able to get the required Protein and fluids in.

That makes sense and is a good reason but let's get our terms straight--that's the opposite of a slider food. A slider slides right through and DOESNT fill you up so you can eat a lot more or too much.

At least that's the way we use it on here. Just to clarify in case anyone goes looking for "slider" posts and gets confused

Odd..jello turns to liquid when you eat it and counted toward my liquid intake.

That is weird I was given Jello in the hospital on the very first tray they brought to me.....and it's on my "clear liquid" phase, and counts as liquid intake. These docs are all over the place with their rules....LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
