My surge is on Wednesday and I'm really nervous and have all these random thought going through my head with how I'm going to feel after the surgery with the purée food and pain . I'm anxious but really nervous about everything else .

@@hazelzay It's normal to be anxious as the surgery date gets closer. You will do fine. Pain can be managed with medication - don't resist taking what is prescribed. You may have gas pains - which will go away with walking/moving. There's a lot of good things on a pureed diet - so don't worry about that either! You've got this!!! Good luck!

I have surgery next Friday but I'm more worried about the general anesthesia I think more than anything else but I keep telling myself all will go well!

8 months post op here.....but still remember the week leading up to the surgery like it was yesterday.

My surge is on Wednesday and I'm really nervous and have all these random thought going through my head with how I'm going to feel after the surgery with the purée food and pain . I'm anxious but really nervous about everything else .

Pain was very surprising for me in that it really didn't amount to much of anything at all. Some soreness and pain meds for the first day or two at home was all.

I skipped the puree phase and just stayed with the Protein shakes until soft foods like tuna and such were allowed at 4 weeks. It passed like a breeze and the weight loss was steady.

I have surgery next Friday but I'm more worried about the general anesthesia I think more than anything else but I keep telling myself all will go well!

The anesthesia was really improved over prior types I've had. I woke up clear and lucid and had zero hangover. Up and walking two hours later and every 3 hours afterwards.

Nothing to it.

I was nervous too, and I have had many other surgeries........

but it turns out to be one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I am thankful every single day (after the first couple of weeks).

I am looking forward to hearing how it goes for you and how you are doing afterwards.

My surgery is this Wednesday as well, so I'm right there with ya. Things will turn out amazing for you. My sister gave me this advice "think of the end results and how happy you will be." Maybe this will help you through as well. ☺

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
