Introduction - Surgery in TJ - 2 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

My name is JT and I thought this would be a great support group to be a part of. Originally I had the lap band in 2008 and didn't lose any weight with it so I had it removed and 2013 and went on to be sleeved. I had a great doctor however there again I only lost 20lbs and I've always eaten decent. I had sacrificed my activities over the years to support my son in all of his activities and ballooned up to 240lbs. I started reading this same website and praying for some help and I found Dr. Daniel Huacuz in TJ. My plans were to fly to Costa Rica however I couldn't get anyone to return my call but Dr. Huacuz called me personally. Guys and girls you know that is huge if you're from the States as most doctor do not do that. I explained to him what I was going thru and asked would I be a patient for re-sleeve and he said yes. Dr. Huacuz only took a deposit from me because he knew I wasn't sure. He said he would do a endoscopy and afterwards we would know how to move forward. I flew in and that's exactly what happened. He showed me my stomach and made me aware that the doctor who performed the surgery in the States had left too much stomach attached and the hunger hormone which kept me feeling hungry. I paid the rest of the money and immediately went into surgery and he was right there when I opened my eyes. I can't say the same for the doctor I used in the States. The next day he did another endoscopy and showed me what my stomach looked like now and provided me with 3 videos of my actual surgery. :D :) I was so amazed!! He came to the hospital and the hotel every day and evening prior to me leaving and he is still calling and checking on me now. I can't say enough about the services I received in TJ. I was scared to go because of all the horror stories I've heard however Dr. Huacuz was there before and after surgery. Their services were impeccable and nothing I have ever seen in the States from the time I got off the plane to the time I made it home. HIs patient representative Rossy stayed with me for hours before the surgery.

Listen you guys I have insurance on my job however just getting and endoscopy was 900.00 in the States. I would of had to jump thru hoops and hurdles to get approved for a re-sleeve. I was told by several others who go abroad to have surgery that they were told our Doctor's leave too much of the stomach attached. I can't say enough good things about TJ and my doctor.

I would suggest you do your research when using any doctor, search this site to see if you can find any of his patients and read the reviews then go for it. My family did not support me going off however they are proud of me now that I did. I feel like I can accomplish my weightloss goals now, 1 pound at a time.

This is very enlightening. Although I'm going to do it here, I wonder if our surgeons really do leave the stomach bigger. How much post op are you and have you lost since your revision?

I am 2 weeks and 1 day post op and I'm down 19lbs today. I've been told this by more than one person. I also know several others who has had surgery in the States and are successful. It just didn't work for me. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Wishing you the best!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
